By James Nursey Peter Odemwingie's transfer from West Brom to Queens Park Rangers could be back on 7 Aug 2013 22:31 Start your engines! Hoops are looking at striker who infamously saw a move collapse in January On the road again? Odemwingie know the way to Shepherds Bush PA QPR are also considering re-igniting their notorious interest in West Brom striker Peter Odemwingie. Rangers boss Harry Redknapp fancies adding Colombian hot-shot Duvan Zapata, who plays for Argentine side Estudiantes, to his Championship promotion chasers. But the 22-year-old has not yet flown to England for talks as planned, because as Italian outfit Sassuolo - newly promoted to Serie A - have now offered more cash. Roma are also interested in Zapata, who had been linked with West Ham, so Redknapp is now trying to bring in Odemwingie. The 32-year-old has been ostracised at West Brom since his aborted switch to Rangers in January, which saw him allegedly drive from the Midlands to London off his own bat on deadline day in anticipation of a deal. He was filmed sitting in his car near QPR's Loftus Road home, voicing his delight at joining them, but the deal fell through and Odemwingie had to stay at Albion - without ever starting another match. The Nigerian can leave the Baggies for £3.5million, but Redknapp has to try to persuade him to drop down into the Championship. I don't think his ego, or our new wages structure, would allow him to drop to the Championship. or at least I hope thats the case.
He is redundant at WBA. So a free transfer and a contract like Dunne's would be ok. Otherwise, no thanks!
NO! by the time we get back to the premiership are whole squad going to be at the point of retirement
I would love to sign him, but as others have mentioned, not for £3.5 million. I took a great dislike to West Brom last season and I'd hate to do them any favours. He'd add even more pace to our attack, and if he was given a 1 year contract with the option of 1 more then it's a good deal.
no thanks. No more over 30s or we'll be in the same situation we have been in the last 2 seasons. We have a good enough core of pros now, we can afford to add several young prospects
Talking to a WBA fan on train on Saturday...he was going to Wycombe, as WBA weren't playing.... a real fan! Apparently last season Odemwingie was warming up as a sub, and got booed, things thrown at him, really abused. The booing and chanting changed the complete atmosphere on the pitch...and WBA let in two goals while it was happening. It is said he will never be near the team again. He is really soiled goods....they have to off load him. So it is down to his ego, and his agents greed now. I think he was badly advised on that day last Jan...he genuinely believed he had signed, because he had been told he had by his agent. However is he the player we want...when we have AJ...I do not think so (especially if teachers pet is Bobby Zamora...) We need a young and hungry quick and whippy poacher (and we also have Frankie Sutherland...who I personally would have on the bench continuously now...going on every match...until he is ready to start a match.) So a forward line of Austin, AJ (Sutherland and grudgingly Zamora (no idea why at the moment), and attacking midfield Hoillet, Liverpool lad Assaidi (SWP)...not too bad...prob need a bit more cover...but getting there!
Am I the only one who would welcome him on a short contract? With Austin AJ and the odemwhinger that would be a formidable strike force. I've given up on BZ Would have to be a small fee or free transfer though, no way is he worth £3.5m
I think we have moved on from that time we tried to sign him. I,too, would say 'No' but proabaly not a disaster if he came on short contract.
