http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/footb...transfers-vaughan-cattermole-bardsley-2136966 Paolo Di Canio is ready to let a trio of stars quit Sunderland to raise a further £7million for one last summer spending splurge. Midfielder David Vaughan, who has a year left on his deal is available for £1m and attracting interest from Crystal Palace, having placed for the Londoners' manager Ian Holloway at Blackpool. Fellow midfielder Lee Cattermole, the Black Cats' skipper, is up for sale for £5m and has been linked with Fulham, while full-back Phil Bardsley is also available as the Wearsiders look to clear the decks after a busy summer. Sunderland have invested heavily in eight new players so far, and are looking to recoup some cash if the price is right. To that end, Irish winger James McClean is heading for Championship side Wigan in a deal worth around £4m. Elsewhere, Keiren Westwood appears to have won his battle to be No1 keeper, ahead of new boy Vito Mannone, following Simon Mignolet's sale to Liverpool. Westwood was selected for Sunderland's final friendly in Denmark on Tuesday. Admittedly no quotes but basically backing up what we all know However these also seem to think it will be £5m for Catts and £4m for McCleanâ¦.
Agreed, that selling these to fund others is good however it must be done quickly. We need to be fast out of the blocks and points on the board in those first three games.
I read 1.5m - 2m. 4m seems a bit optimistic to me...Whelan paying that for JM? Don't see it. But, would be nice if true.
Great reporting... A trio of stars for £7m. They list 4 players for a total of £10m + 1 figure not announced.
That`s the important bit right there. If we can clock up some points while the players are still gelling & learning about their new team mates, that`s a big plus. A good start. Then hopefully press on from there. I am not going to kid myself, it`s not going to be easy. The earlier we can get rid of the relegation threat the better it will be imo. Enough points on the board by Xmas would be a bit special.
I don't think we have invested heavily. We've spent a few million more than we have had coming in. I would guess we've spent no more than 5 million more than has come in. We should really have 25-30 million still to spend. The wages of those going and coming in will be a similar outlay I reckon.
I dont believe we need to shift players before we get them in, we are playing midfielders at full back for Christ sake and the squad is thinner than last season! We need at least 2 players in before we can let players go, on the other hand PDC/Di Fanti must have a few last minute Van Der Vaart type transfers up their sleeves for deadline day!
I don't think we need to shift many. I think we're waiting on Spurs to bring in a new LB which will free rose. I think we're playing hardball for a left back and I suspect we could be having trouble obtaining that deep lying playmaker we want though
