Junior hails R’s team spirit following Cup win …

IN-FORM R’s winger Junior Hoilett admits a change in attitude amongst the squad is bearing fruit in the early part of the season.

Harry Redknapp’s men made it two wins out of two with victory against Exeter City in the Capital One Cup last night and Hoilett – who was arguably the star-turn in another impressive team display – is confident things are on the up in W12.

“We had a good pre-season. You could tell from the first day that there was a different mentality amongst the lads,” he told www.qpr.co.uk.

“I think the first few games have shown that we’re all in it together.

“When we lose the ball, we fight to win it back – and when we attack, we’re free-flowing and going forward in numbers.

“Momentum will be massive for us this season.

“Winning two games on the bounce always helps that confidence and scoring two goals and keeping a clean sheet will give the lads a boost.

“We’re all fighting for each other to bounce back from last season’s disappointments.”

Goals from Charlie Austin and Danny Simpson booked the R’s passage into the second round and it was the former who earned praise from Hoilett, who commented: “Charlie got his goal on his debut and that will give him a boost.

“When I’m driving at the back four and I look up and see the quality we have in Charlie, AJ and Bobby, I know if I put the ball in the right areas then we’re going to score goals.

“It makes my job easier in terms of picking out a pass, which is great for a player in my position.”

He added: “I’m feeling comfortable on the pitch at the moment.

“Ali Faurlin is giving me a lot of ball in the right pockets and I feel I can cause problems.

“I’m getting at the back four, which is what the manager has asked me to do, so I’m happy with how the season has started.”

Whilst some may see a Cup run as a distraction, Hoilett – ahead of Thursday’s second round draw – was adamant that’s not the case.

“We want to progress as far as we can in this competition,” he said.

“It doesn’t matter what competition it is – we want to win every game we play in.

“We’ll see who we get in Thursday’s draw, but we’ve got some important league games to come before then.”

For once, I read something a player states that has already proved itself to be true on the pitch! Roll on the revolution.

Nice that he acknowledged Ali's contribution as well - I'd like to see Him and Joey in the centre as much as possible, spraying passes and through balls, as well as making a run or two of their own.

I've heard that MaClaren has been working extensively with Hoilett both mentally and physically. It seems to be paying off. Long may it continue if he keeps performing the way he has. He's like having a new signing.

It's interesting to hear his thoughts about how things work on the pitch, like how he feels about providing for the strikers and how he's enjoying playing with Ale.

Where did Barton play against Exeter? He was on the right against Wednesday, of course, and I think we'll often see him on the right.

next game look at how quickly Ale moves the ball compared to the others. He may not be the fastest over the ground but he is a quick thinker and can control and pass quickly, often one touch, which is what the forward players like.

I hope Junior gets a goal soon, he deserves it and it will do his confidence the world of good.

Could not agree more re Ali's early passing
He strokes it early accurately and at the right pace

I said a little while ago that Junior is in for a big season, hope he keeps his form up and proves me right. On his day, an absolute nightmare for any defence.

Outstanding on Saturday and deserved a goal for his efforts. Perhaps we can survive without AT after all. Those Toilett jokes are going to come back to haunt me (I hope).

Needs to get his head up a bit ... AJ had a tap in when he cut in from the left from Barton's pass.

NO's tap in was from another wild shot

I would like to see a pass instead of a shot sometimes and then maybe we will score and win the matches he thinks we are going to win

Both him and SWP should come good this year IMO

I know you won't change your mind based on this Dave, but really take a close look at SWP next time you are at a game. His control is shocking, and its always been like that. Fast and sometimes catches the ball cleanly when shooting, and dogged tracking back, but he's not quality.

He has always had that clumsy look but I still believe in him and he will change and grow at this level ... his shot against Exeter was very good and very unlucky ... one of those goes in who knows?

Can't help thinking that it's a shame they weren't all in it together last season! Having said that, looking good so far. Nice to hear some positives for once!
