He was out injured for well over a year, but the Sunderland fans actually quite rated, at least far more than they rated Elmo.

Meyler could get in Sunderland's team, he just had two bad injuries and was used as a substitute as he was recovering. By the time he was fit again, Sunderland had brought in new players and he was free to leave. It doesn't make him bad. Alex Bruce was released by Leeds (I think). Now, we're a much better side than them so why is it that one of their released players ended up with us? Who just happened to be the son of our manager?

Bruce was part of our promotion side and he played well at CB. Would we have got promoted without him? Almost certainly. Would we have got promoted without Meyler or Quinn? Almost certainly not.

To be fair OLM if he was good enough they would have kept him, the same as Elmo he also faded in the big games towards the end of the season (he says putting his tin hat on waiting for the pelters :))

Another manager called Paulo Di Canio came in and let him go because he never saw him play, and wanted to build his own team ffs.

Just looked, I thought MON left earlier than that and Meyler left permenantly later than that.

Still, MON proved he didn't know what he was doing at Sunderland - that is why he got sacked. When Elmo and Meyler were last regularly in the first team for Sunderland, the team was doing better than it was under MON.

O'Neil played Meyler 15 times after he returned from injury, I was a bit surprised he let him go.

Bruce was sacked due to a couple of poor results and also due to stupid fan pressure because he was a Newcastle fan, if I recall.

MON was sacked for just being plain crap.

As regards would we have got promoted without Alex Bruce, myler or Quinn is something we'll never know this doesn't make them good enough for the premier league.
My point at the beginning was its ok on here to slag some players off but not others e,g
Alex plays cm to help the team out because he's asked to- he gets ****e on here
If koren was asked to play defensive midfield or cb and embarrassed all game the general feeling would be its Steve Bruce's fault for playing him out if position and koren would still be the bees knees.
Alex is ok to slag off but try it with koren and your close to been banned from the board

It's the same outcome they were both sacked because they weren't achieving, but going by mon previous jobs I wouldn't say he was crap or didn't know what he was doing. If the chance had ever arisen we'd have jumped at the chance to have him here

Why do we have to worry what players like Meyler, were like at previous clubs ? He looked good for us didn't he ? That's far more important. Scored goals too. I know it wasn't the premier league, but he did more than enough to deserve his chance.

It wasn't. Because most people thought he was poor.

Don't know what board you've been reading Geo because Koren became a bit of a whipping boy last season with a great deal of posters slagging him off every week.

It's Quinn you can't criticise on here despite the fact for a creative midfielder he doesn't score anywhere near enough, doesn't get anywhere near enough assists and in general has absolutely no end product what so ever.
He was absolutely dire for the latter half of the season but he's got ginger hair and runs 'round a lot.

I can see this post going down well but that's how I see it.

I dare say I'm the only one who thinks this but to prove a point during one game( (Burnley at home I think) I pointed out every time he lost the ball or mis placed a pass by giving my mate a gentle nudge with my elbow.

I'd nearly broken his ribs by the end of the game.

    The reason I did it?

My mate used to literally **** off over Quinn, stating he was the best player in the team.

My point was he really isn't as good as a lot make out and produces next to **** all.

I shall now don my tin hat and wait for the incoming.

Well Koren was far too inconsistent and he didn't have the same impact he had in his first two seasons. He still managed a few goals though, but generally his effectiveness waned as the season went on. A fair few mentioned it.

It's not Alex Bruce's fault he was played out of position, my gripe is with SB trying to justify his selection. Players like Meyler and Quinn, who make active contributions to the team are always going to get praised.

The fact is AB is a **** midfielder. I haven't seen anybody give me a valid point to suggest why he should be deployed there, nor have they given me a reason why other, more experienced players didn't play there instead. He was average at CB and he's barely going to feature this season with Davies, Chester, Figueroa, McShane and Faye all ahead of him. There were different things that annoyed me about AB last season, midfield play aside, he also seemed to come off 'injured' every game, then be perfectly fit in the next one. Subbing a CB isn't really a good idea as your defence needs to be solid for the whole game. His Dad clearly told him to knock it on the head as he stopped doing it towards the end of the season.

You already know I disagree with you on this so I shan't kick off completely, but RE Quinn's assists, I'm sure he got a lot last season. Not as many as Brady or Simpson but 3rd most after those two I think. He seemed to create a few goals from crosses level with the box. Unlike Brady and Elmo he can't whip them in from deep on the wing but when he's level with the box his crosses are pretty good IMO. I agree he needs to add goals though.
