Taking the lucky decision at 1-0 was their goal ruled out?

So what about the two penalty shouts, Saylor being sent off etc?

    Just listen to Pardews interview?

You see that's heart over your head - you can't afford that in football management, just ask SAF<cheers>

For me Giaccherini is guna have a good impact for Sunderland. HOWEVER, there is obviously a massive risk in getting a lot of players in and a lot of players out. saying Cabral is better than any of our players is innacurate because no one's seen him in a Prem game. In a nuthsell, the OP was a bit overdramatic considering a ball hasn't been kicked yet but for those talking about how you've improved your team, we had pretty much the same team that took us to fifth minus ba after jan. and made improvements (Bigirimana, Anita then add the Jan signings if you want) and nearly got relelgated last season so saying you've improved your team means newt really, the proof will be at the derby.

Ah maybe with Giacc, unknown quantity and all that but it's by no means my finished team. As far as Sess goes, It's an educated selection from someone with a vested interest. Just watch him go this season. ;)

Jonas Tiring Legs, time will tell...................take it you did not see the Hong Kong games...............they were a tangible reason for our optimism.

I don't think you can really judge either team on last season.

We are facing a completely different challenge to last season with the absence of Europe. We were ill equipped to deal with a Europa season but a squad shorter on numbers and quality coped ok the season before. As did the manager who ended up manager of the season but struggled badly last year. It was new to him aswell. We strengthened in January (they've had 6 months to settle and adapt) and have begun to do so this summer. We should be a lot fitter too with the introduction of Faye Downey and certainly look so on the evidence of pre season.

Sunderland have a new manager essentially who has had his first pre season to make his mark, has a healthy obsession with fitness and they have improved the overall quality of their squad. According to most Sunderland fans I've spoken with, their team looks much leaner and fitter. As with HBA for us, this can bring out the best in flair players like Johnson and Sessegnon who haven't always looked like they live the life.

Every season is different anyway, particularly when in the early stages of a managerial era. We both are. More so Sunderland but Pardew has only had 2 and half seasons. Quite an interesting season ahead for both clubs.

These things always go the same way, with fans largely offering polarised views of theirs, and their rivals chances. When it is more like;y that neither are as good as, or as bad as they suggest.

But thats a bit boring innit.

Having a squad of good players isn't the same thing as being a good team.

Our problem last season was basically **** tactics.

It doesn't matter if we're better than you in every position, if you turn up and we don't, you'll win.

It's the same when we got promoted. You had the better side, player quality wise, and we beat you 5-1.

Man for man City is the best squad in the league, but Manure are the best team.

    Look at it this way

Krul vs Westwood (Krul though who knows as Westwood has not been given much of a game yet)

    Debuchy vs Gardner (Debuchy)

Taylor vs Brown (Brown and they both have a similar injury record)

    Colocini vs JOS (Colocini)

    Santon vs Colback (equal)

Tiote vs Cabral (again equal but we have not seen much of Cabral)

    Sissoko vs Larsson (Sissoko)

    Cabaye vs Sess (Sess)

    Remy vs Johnson (equal)

    Cisse vs Fletcher (Fletcher)

Ben Arfa vs Giaccherini (Giaccherini based on confed's cup and consistency)

Its close but remember we will be replacing Gardner, Colback and Larsson before the end of the window.

How do you know this, most of the Sunderland players you just have not seen play in this league yet and Check Tiote may well be the worst midfielder in the league, he doesn't do anything at all and even his hard man act went west the day SEss fLATTENED him.

Did miss em pal, been too busy checking which pub team Ameobi scored against every week. I understand the optimism completely and don't mind it, we've done a switcharoo of how each team's fans felt at the beginning of last season. So that better mean we're taking 4 bloody points this year!

Colbeck is a better defender then Santon and will only get better if he and us give him the chance. Toite is crap.

Weird how Tiote seemed to become anonymous last season. Cabaye wasn't the player he had been previously either. HBA is still a top player when he's not injured and Collocini should be, as long as his head's on straight after all that "I wanna go home" malarkey.

I don't know how our lot will turn out, but the Hong Kong games looked promising enough. If the new lads take to the pace of the English game, then we could have a surprise in store, hopefully with a good run in one or both of the cups.

The mags should be better in the league without a Europa League campaign this year, but I suspect both teams will be mid-table before the relegation battle really kicks in.

Remember also that there is a World Cup at the end of this season. How many players from each squad will consider they need to pull their fingers out to make it onto the plane to Brazil. I am certainly hoping Cabaye and Ben Arfa do.

That's the same for any team. On the flip side players who aren't getting game time won't be very happy sitting on the bench in a world cup year.

it's all about opinions but wowzers...
Giaccherini hasn't kicked a ball in the prem mate and overseas players generally take time to adapt.
We had a lad a French lad called Gui'Varch once who was class pre season and bombed big time.
For what it's worth I genuinely wouldn't swap any of our players mentioned above for a SAFC lad.
I think your biggest challenge this year isn't on the pitch... it's off it (as some may say will be ours). PDC is unproven in the prem and is a rather volatile chap so ome or two 'flare ups' may destabilise morale.

Funny how you go on about lack of premiership experience when it's a Sunderland player. Have you seen Giaccherini play? He has now played about 5 times with the rest of the team against some great opposition as well (spurs, man city) and so it's not like we are signing him the day before the start of the season. Before that he had a fantastic confederations cup campaign for Italy.

As for PDC being volatile look at your club!!! FFS <doh> Alex Ferguson liked the odd flare up, Brian Clough liked the odd flare up, Bill Shankly liked the odd flare up....get my drift! ... plus how many top managers in the Premiership came from other premiership teams with loads of premiership experience? Wenger? (nope) Ferguson (nope) ... need i go on??

Players like O'Shea with their vast experience are giving nothing but glowing reports about the boss and the training (unlike newcastle players!!). You'll find the players that are kicking off (Bramble for example) aren't the sort to put a hard days graft in. He will have us leaner and meaner then previous seasons the team will give 110% for 90+ minutes of each and every game.

You really need to worry about your own team and club... you have only signed (sorry loaned) one first team player to add to a squad that was right royally thumped by one of the worst Sunderland teams for years and even he may be spending some time at her majesty's pleasure from mid season. Your team is weaker then last season. Add to that a sense a Manager and a director of football at odds with each other. Harmony??

Then again, I could be wrong and you could be right.. only time will tell.

I wouldn't even bother trying to predict who has the better side or whose gonna do better this season! Both teams are capable of doing really well. Both capable of doing ok. And both are capable of having an utter nightmare! It all could depend on the rub of the green at key points during the season!
