I can't see that happening, we have a solid team already, it's just about a steady progression. We can't over spend like QPR did, you have to play to be in this league not pay to be in it. We want to strengthen the right areas with the right players and I trust that we will do that. I agree that europe is a far way off yet, but I don't doubt the ambitions of the club and one day it would be great to see.

Ironically I think the most talented CB we had last year was Forren. <doh>

In terms of performances, I think Fonte was our best CB under Adkins, and Yoshi was the best under Poch. I'm not as worried about the back line as some are; I think Wanyama will improve our defence significantly and I know Lovren has the ability even though he's just had a really poor season. If someone blatantly talented like Alderweireld came along I wouldn't complain, but I'm not desperate.

I'd love to get Alderweireld. It's a shame it never worked out for Forren but something was obviously wrong. I'm a fan of Yoshida but haven't seen enough of Lovren to judge yet, but he obviously wasn't brought in as cover. Damn though, Alderweireld would be a very welcome signing.

Nothing. I'm only talking progression. I don't think he sits in a top 8 Premier league team. We are not one of those, but I believe that is where we are aiming, so in blue sky land, I'd replace him with a better CB.

Life isn't like this I know.

Defensively, I'm far more concerned about the lack of cover at Full Back than Centre Back. Fox worries me far more than either Hooiveld or Jose.

Hooiveld and Fonte are perfectly fine as backup. Hooiveld showed that if he isn't left exposed, or put anywhere near Fox, he can do a more than adequate job. I think with Lovren and Wanyama we've probably strengthened the defence significantly. I have faith in our attacking players to come good this season but I still think we could use another striker and/or winger.

Fox worried me more under Adkins - the higher line and pressing game that Poch plays evidently suits him more as he seemed to get better the times he played nearer the end of last season. Still wouldn't mind cover to replace him though.

Fonte's exceptional in terms of playing out from the back. Yoshida is possibly the worst passer of the ball I've ever seen bless him, solid defender though. I'm happy(ish) with our CB's this year, if we've only got a set amount of funds a striker and a winger (or a cam to push gaston wide) are both needed more desperately.

What an obscenely inaccurate comment. Yoshida is generally a good passer, but the occasional pass goes astray. I'm sure he'll cut that out of his game over the next few years.

Well, just got back from a 3 day stag weekend, not much in the way of updates then?

Banega and Damiao deals are dead.

As far as cover at the back goes I would be disappointed if we bought another CB unless he was truly world class. We have the likes of Stephens and others coming through and I can see Jack if he continues to improve becoming a fairly regular bench warmer. We have Chambers as well and both can give our right back cover. Fox as cover is ok for now.

Give me a goal scoring striker and I will be happy. Isgrove has shown he has pace and some trickery and will be pushing for a chance this season as well. We have just got to be careful we don't rush all of the youngsters at the same time although they have played together as they worked their way through the academy..

I'd still like Omar Abdulrahman, but apparently Arsenal have offered him a trial.

    1st Striker
    2nd Winger
    3rd Centre back

I'd be happy with just the top two or someone who plays in both of the top two, along with a centre back.

Not too bothered about Damiao, hell of a risk at the money. Gutted about Banega though :(

Apparently Tottenham have been threatened by Al-Qaeda over the Bale deal.

He's certainly improved but he's still woefully poor. Honestly I noticed it early when we signed him and I've been looking out for it ever since. It's staggering how often he'll lose the ball through a poor pass.
