Disappointed to see this as I was hoping he would be used during the season. Good player to bring on if players are tiring or booked and looking like getting sent off.

Looks like its an emergency loan - 28 days only. Hopefully he'll do well and we'll see him later in the season. Was solid against LFC, IMO.

Disappointing. Who is our back up for Simpson then? Ned?

Heard on Talksport that we're trying to loan a player from some Turkish team, Boswinga was his name.

I think Ned is a better RB than CB, he don't organise the defense enough for me to be a first choice CB. He is also probably a better RB than Simpson, and I'd have Simpson as back up for Ned. We need 2 decent CB's, Clint is not going to get a lot better, though he organises, and Dunne?, well if he's ever fit there's another back up CB

I disagree. I think Ned will become better and better as the season progresses. Ned's suffered like Carragher did the early stages of his career - being moved round from position to position - but I feel CB is his natural position. Simpson is a natural FB, IMO.

Im with Husky on this, he looks much better at CB to me, but needs an experienced head next to him for a bit. I'm afraid this is not Hill, who has plenty to occupy him thinking about his own game. Missed opportunity last season, should have played Ned with Nelsen.

I think there's many think the same as you Husky. Maybe you are right and Ned will get better as a CB, but whenever I have seen him play CB, we always seem disorganised as we were a lot Saturday, and he himself looks more comfortable now anyway, at RB to me.

I would be surprised if Onuoha doesn't prove to be a quality CB at this level this season.

Our defence was disorganised last season full stop. Whether Ned was personally responsible I'm not sure but his whole physique and style is that of a CB, even though he has played well at FB on occasion; in that way he's similar to Carragher and Gallas, though not accomplished of course.

He needs time to grow into the position but I feel confident that he can - at least I hope!

Back up will be The lad from Fulham
    Defoe and Zaha incoming
    Scott Parker
And Dave coming back from Pompey

    My mind... It's blown

    Konchesky's a left-back so I can't see him being cover for RB.

Parker and Defoe - on decent wages I'd imagine and probably hoping to go to the WC next year. Would be great signings but plenty of PL teams would be interested in them.
