Morning Peeps, A crowd just shy of 35,000 saw Murphy's injury time winner at Elland Road against a decent Brighton team. Firstly, lets talk about the crowd. The only reason why it was not a sell out is because Brighton did not sell their allocation. Do we expect to be topping over 30,000 for the rest of the season, or was it just because it was the first game of the season? Did the crowd make a difference to the result? Do you think Leeds deserved the victory? Who was the outstanding player or players? Who didn't play well? Did anyone see Millwalls goals on the football league show..... Neither did they?
Moorning Elland. Sack the Board and Manager I say. Only 34k at the ground. Only scraped in 2-1. Forced to play footy on the floor. Bring back Papa Smurf, hoofball, and room to move in the ground!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And then again, the crowd probably did help. Let's see if we can get 30k+ for every home league game. Haven't seen much of the game yet due to problems with logging on to LUTV. 'kin' irritating, but it'll get sorted out eventually. Doubt we'll get past 20k tomorrow, even if GFH were to do a really special deal for the game. Let's also hope BMD gives the fringe players a game as much to keep everyone fit.
Crowds will stay if they can see that the club is going forward, but past experience under Bates saw us going backwards so fans voted with their feet. GFH need to demonstrate that they are backing the manager and if he is backed he will get us promoted. No good GFH talking about the plan being for prem football in 2-years and then saying that they will be selling the club within 2-years, that just proves that they are passing the buck. Great result, but we were lucky and could have been well beaten. The manager has got the group in the right frame of mind which is great, but we need a bit more quality to enable us to compete this season. The team cannot expect the fans to give them that extra lift as half the matches are away, and though it might seem that we have more fans than the home fans at times, we are the 12-man but ......... My fear is that results fall off and we drop into that mid-table zone away from competing against the better sides with cash spent on them. Fans will start to stay away but maybe not in the numbers under Bates, afterall GFH so far seem to be at least trying. Would Byram and Austin have made a difference Saturday by making us the better side in the first half?
I liked BM's answer on the hand ball issue - "well, it touched his hand......." Personally I think we owe it to hand of God. BM was quick to say their goal was offside, could anyone see that, I couldn't? Back to God again, I think I need him to stop me laughing at Nillwall................ but not yet.
Doc, Byram instead of Peltier who might move to CB instead of Pearce, & Austin instead of Tonge would certainly be a stronger unit than was playing on Saturday. You might be right on us not staying in the top 6 after games against better sides or games when we can't guarantee significant home support. But this is a process where GFH seem to think it will take 2yrs to get us promoted. As long as we're there or thereabouts (top 6) cum the end of the season, we'll see it as progress. We don't want to go back to the "living the dream" days. Just look at Coventry, Portsmouth, and us three or 4 years ago to see what happens when you live beyond your means. At the end of this season, a lot of players, probably surplus to requirements, will come to the end of their contracts. So if they haven't moved on anyway, they will be, which is when BMD will have more money to bring in the quality we need.
On a separate question and as raised on another site, anyone know why there was no minute's applause at the start of the season for all those who we've lost in the last year? We've got new owners, so maybe they weren't aware of the tradition.
Loved every minute of that game! I was on the edge of my seat! For me Murphy, Tonge and McCormack were all class! I would have started Poleon but I imagine he will start on Wednesday. Anyone else going Wed? I am
Morning Everyone, Don't think it will be long til Poleon gets a starting place, probably at the expense of Hunt, who apparently had a good game. I'd like to see Hall play in his natural wide position. This will give us a more natural shape. Does anyone know how serious Warnocks injury is?
Morning all. Just back so doing my lute subscription today and will catch up on highlights. Fantastic day be all accounts all round. Suppose we'll be six or seven games in before we see any real pattern. Remember drawing with wolves last season and warnock telling us they would be a top team. How wrong was that. Same applies to Brighton, could be promoted or relegated yet. Only result you could read anything into was the wallies. Consistently ****e even with the outstanding Morisson
ticket prices for A games are still expensive so expect to average around 28k for the season (results depending)
I thought he was marginally offside but lees was pathetic and got nudged off it far too easy. thought he had a torrid time on Saturday tbh looked very inept
Morning all Still feeling happy after the result at the weekend. It's all those last minute conceeded goals from last season that made this win seem even more sweet I think, good to see the lads playing to end and really wanting it. I've not heard much about Warnocks injury either, if it's hamstring let's hope it isn't too serious. I mean we've got White and Drury, (and Pugh ) but I'd rather only see them in there as a last option rather than first choice for a long spell. That's worrying. Here was me hoping that Lees wouldn't be reasonably solid and cover those little lapses of concentration in Pearce's game until we (fingers crossed) get a new CB in. Match thread for Wednesday will be up soon, just trying to wrap my head around who I think will play where, and then I'll publish it
Drury has not really put a foot wrong. He is more than capable though Warnock gets forward a lot more
I'd definitely start Drury over White, I guess I just worry about how little he played last season. But knowing Colin, that could very well have been personal rather than for any other reason! Maybe I was a little quick to judge there.
Afternoon All A good start. Having won two free flights from LBA courtesy of Monarch before the match on Saturday the Mrs is now wittering "they might be one way tickets, they wont include luggage and we will have to use them quick before GFH go bust". Never fooking satisfied is she! Perhaps I should e mail and ask if the private jet is available!!!!! lol Anyone going on Sunday? Any pubs recommended? When I asked on the leicester forum they recomended Morrisons as a good place to eat..... Even worse they were not joking.
Tonge a very good player in the right system, give him a run and see how it goes. Byram in place of anyone is a no brainer. I'd be happy if our gates average out at 25k, can't see it being 30k each game. Nillwall? On their way back to Lge One, Lomas not the answer.
Most accounts I have read had Lees being poor and Pearce looking strong and assured. Perhaps Byram at RB with Peltier and Pearce at CB. That being said was it Peltier who made that shocking backpass to Kenny against Nuremburg?
