from Sky Sports website: Newcastle director of football Joe Kinnear has revealed he expects to finalise a move for Queens Park Rangers striker Loic Remy in the next 48 hours and that they are in talks with Aston Villa about Darren Bent. Kinnear is working hard to bring in new signings before the start of the new season and they have lined up deals for strike duo Remy and Bent. Newcastle are thought to have approached QPR about a loan deal for French international Remy and Kinnear is confident of sealing a move for the player early next week. Asked if the club were close to signing Remy, Kinnear told Sky Sports News: "Yeah I think very much, so I would like to think we are very, very close to agreeing that. "I would think maybe Monday or Tuesday we will be a position to say yea or nay, but I am very happy about how that deal is going at the moment." Kinnear admitted talks are ongoing regarding signing former Sunderland striker Bent, but that they face competition for the England international with Fulham also reported to be chasing Bent. "We were with Darren's agent for two or three hours, we thrashed out a deal "We are still in negotiations with Aston Villa so there is a really strong possibility there. "Again I hear the latest is that somebody else has all of a sudden shown interest in the player so we have competition from various clubs around the country, but I am not letting go. "These are players that me and Alan [Pardew] have spoken about. These are players that we've all agreed at the club are the type of player we want to bring to Newcastle."
I won't be happy if we don't get a fee even if he's charged. £2m is not a lot when you think the difference he would make to our season.
It seems that 'old school' English football people just can't keep their mouths shut when asked something by the press. No such thing as a done deal until its done Joe. Wonder how much he gets paid for doing this 'job'.
Agree. We shouldn't be letting him go unless someone offers to buy him for the release amount, £8 million I think it was. He's worth more than that.
If we loan him out for £2m and they end up with a jailed rapist on their hands, will that be good business? I'm still baffled why anyone would want him with that hanging over him.
You really think they will still pay us? We either lose him for a season for £2m or hes banged up. Either way we lose. Wed be better off keeping him because 20 goals is worth dpfar moepre than £2m.
If he goes then we need at least 1 more striker. If not two. Back to square one, the stage before we signed Austin.
Then tell him no one wants to buy him and he will have no other choice. Its not as if we are keeping him against his wishes.
After all the effort to create a team spirit this preseason, I don't think the management will want to force anyone to stay. All those who don't want to play for us are being bunged in a separate training group at the moment I think? Ultimately Remy never intended to stay with us, even if we stayed in the PL. We simply acted as a shop window to him- and in fact that's how Arry/Tony sold the move to him. "Score some goals with us to keep us up, then you'll have won your move to Arsenal or wherever"
We aren't forcing him to stay if no one makes an offer. We could tell him that and he can leave in January or stay on if we look like going up.
I have to agree with Grifter. If a player's not willing then there's no point having them around. We need to gather momentum as a Club and individuals like Remy who don't want to be there can only hinder that. You're too hardline, Flyer.
I thought Harry spoke a lot of sense when he said something along the lines that 'great players show they are great by playing football anywhere'. If Barton can do it, why not Remy?
