Oh come on everyone - get over yourselves. It was the first game of a very long haul. For the first half-hour they gave us loads of space, then they closed us down. They deserved the win. Mind you - might have helped if we had some experienced defenders on the pitch. Missing Rocha badly.
Except it was before kick off in the first half (so around 2:50ish). You Win Again by the Bee Gees at half time was also a good choice, not my favourite Bee Gees song but still a good one. Also it kinda accurately predicted the final result (you referring to the opposition)
I'm no more or less optimistic than I was in pre-season at the moment. Whilst I was hoping the feel-good factor (and the full house) might give us some momentum into the first few games, I've struggled to understand how we can such strong favourites to go back up. We've kept some good players and signed some more, but by no means can you say they're head and shoulders above the other teams in the league. This was never going to be the walkover that some predicted (although with the exception of SB, I think most of the expectation has come from people outside the club). Nor am I going to read what's going to happen in the rest of the 45 games based on one bad result. We'll play worse teams than Oxford and I'm sure we'll also play better.
Absolute ****ing joke. Bottom of the league, well down Portsmouth; Thank you for obliterating my hopes for the season in the first game. Guarantee we won't recover from this. And don't say it's only the first match - getting hammered by Oxford in front of a sell out crowd on our supposed 'fresh start', what other team in this league concedes 4 goals at home on the first day of the season when everyone should be up for it Looking forward to shipping another 4 or 5 goals on Tuesday against Bournemouth.
Wow, you are feeling pessimistic this evening aren't you. How about some Ellie Goulding to cheer you up?
I remember Everton gettting hammered on the first day of the 1984-85 season at home, by Nottingham Forest by the same scoreline!! Guess what!! They went on to win the league. I'm not suggesting Pompey will do the same but as things settle down, I am sure Pompey will improve!! Don't feel too despondent yet guys!! I have a feeling that the likes of Oxford and Bristol Rovers are due very good seasons so they are the teams I will be looking out for!!
I have never heard of Ellie Goulding!! Am I missing much?? If you want class, how about Sade or Swing Out Sister, old skool I know, but still class!!!
Tbf, it's not her best song, but it's quite catchy and I like it. Also they played it the the Pompey Ladies awards evening so it has a certain nostalgic element to it. Other good ELlie Goulding songs to try include:
Spot on. We have got a new and young team - I was hoping (as always) for a win but certainly not expecting one. We seriously need some experience in defence though.
Because there's no surer sign that football season has returned than a wildly incorrect SB3 prediction!
Here's something else to cheer you up. A pic, from one of the Pompey Ladies players please log in to view this image I did wonder what it said, I couldn't fully see from where I was sat due to the angle.
That's pretty much what happened at Wembley when England played a friendly against Belgium and the cards made up a St George's Cross. For pretty much the entire first half, it was raining paper aeroplanes non-stop. And by raining, I mean literally a downpour. It was very random.
