Has anyone been following this guy? His results look promising enough. 2009 Formula BWM Europe - 7th 2010 Formula BMW Europe - 2nd 2011 British Formula three - 9th 2012 British Formula three - 1st 2013 GP3 - currently 4th with a win. Seems to suggest after gaining the experience from his rookie season in a new category he will be a championship contender in his 2nd season. He is only 20 years old and I may be wrong but I think he is a member of McLarens young driver programme. Do you think this guy will be on the grid in a couple of years?
Definitely more deserving than some on the F1 grid. I'm with Hans though, he'll need money to get in. His results are good, but don't mark him out as an exceptional talent yet.
Unfortunately, everyone needs money to "get in"… –It takes an awful lot of commitment; connections are always useful; and strings will be pulled where they exist. This is true for all forms of motorsport. It's just a question of scale. Some teams (at any level, not just F1) will weigh the financial aspect of their operation more heavily than others better positioned to afford to be more discerning. Wouldn't it be reasonable though, to assert that in a sense, motor racing is a microcosm of life itself? When financial constraints are tighter, as has been the case since the western world went into recession, talent will be less well fed than in times o' plenty. And with fewer beans to share, the poor will be first to see space on the plate. They will probably be handed smaller plates too, because they are not dishing them out! This might be argued as survival of the fittest. Sadly, 'most talented' does not equate to 'fittest' because fitness is also a function of nourishment. From an egalitarian perspective, this is regrettable; but when discussing one of the most iconic examples of capitalism which, let's face it, motor sport is, we might be wiser to pass it off as human-nature if we want to preserve anything to aspire to. When things are comfortable, money talks; but when things are tight, money gets its volume turned up – by the people with less of it. Suddenly, money is heard to SHOUT! This is especially true of motorsport. - - -o0o- - -
