Both on top form are the best strike force in the league. We dont need to choose between the 2 as its between Berbatov and Hernandez and Berbatov wins hands down. Besides pace he wins on everything. Hernandez is quality btw, just needs to be used better.
Are you serious? We werent lucky to win against chelsea? Please explain why.Plus you dont have to concede more than4-5 goals to be humiliated.Did you watch the 2009 final?Or even the recent final? We hardly got a chance in either of the games.Barca had plenty of possession and split us open far too easily. It was a walk in the park for them in both finals. We only had 3 shots on goal through the whole match on saturday. We couldnt even create more then 1 decent chance. Manchester United v Barcelona: the Champions League final 2011: Goals 1 3 Shots on Target 1 12 Shots off Target 2 4 Corners 0 6 Possession 31.6 68.4
Are you serious? We werent lucky to win against chelsea? ........................... No, we were not lucky to win it against Chelsea. We dominated the first half, should have been three up, Lampard got a lucky equaliser just before half time. Chelsea edged the second half. We edged extra time. We scored more penalties than them. How, under your warped view, were we lucky?
Ok: Manchester United Chelsea Goals scored 1 1 Shots on target 5 3 Ball possession 58% 42% Dominated the game with more shots on target. And that figure doesn't even include the two blocks Terry made from Giggsy in. Also, does anyone actually remember Chelsea's other shots on target in that game?
Swarbs We are dealing with one of the worst posters ever on 606 here. I have never come across someone who has such a lack of football knowledge.
Yeah Chelsea had about 18 shots off target I think, as they do every week as they tend to shoot from distance due to lack of creativity. People who claim they dominated must only be looking at the toital shots stats, which are misleading. Having said that, they did hit the woodwork twice. I thought it was an even game overall in the final. We were lucky in terms of Terry slipping but I don't think you could say we lucky over the course of the match.
Barcelona dominated because we lacked a Berbatov or Nani style player. Had either or both started the stats would of been very different. Nani can and did go past Barcelona players and Berbatov would of likely kept the ball better than anyone else on the pitch. Valencia & hernandez looked dreadful in that game. By far the worst performances by United players in the season.
You say we should have been 3 up by half time and yes i agree but they should have been 3 up as well...i think they hit the bar like twice. If anything they had the better chances as the goal post saved us in the second half where as in the first half cechs brilliance helped them(remember a goal keeper is part of the team as well.)Again in the penalty shoot out we got lucky as Mr chelsea slipped and hit the post and had he not slipped it was more likely that he would have scored..hence giving them the CL title. Now had they won it that day you would have said they were lucky as well...listen im happy we won it in 2008 and that we have got to 2 finals after that but my point is we should not have been humiliated the way we have been by barca..not once but twice.
Listen im not saying we were bad that day because we werent..the game was more even then anything. However people dont realise that defenders and goal keeepers are part of the game as well.Terrys block and cechs saves were brilliant pieces of individual work not luck..
United19Red Agree SPR Give it a rest, Barca have smashed Real 5.0 this season, took them to the cleaners at Reals own ground. Barca are a great side and beating them would never of happened.
You say we should have been 3 up by half time and yes i agree but they should have been 3 up as well... ..................... What game were you watching? I can assure you, it was not the same one as everyone else. ..................... Again in the penalty shoot out we got lucky as Mr chelsea slipped and hit the post .................... How was that luck? It was a bad penalty, and I am pretty sure it missed the goal completely. Just like the penalties we missed were bad.
And what about the Chelsea goal? Double deflection off Vidic and then Rio, drops right at the feet of Lampard, and VDS slips in exactly the same wet penalty area that Terry slipped in later. No luck in that at all? My view of that match is simple: United dominated the first half and took a deserved lead. Chelsea got back into it with a lucky goal. After that the game got cagey, and Chelsea always look good when the game is cagey. United still created better chances than Chelsea. Chelsea's defender and keeper did well to save and block our shots, but that was countered by Drogba and Lampard hitting the bar and post. If they were better players they would have scored. Likewise, if Giggs was better at finishing he would have put his shots in spots where Terry couldn't block them. Nine other players took penalties from the same spot as Terry and none of them slipped. Terry's technique was poor and that's why he fell over and missed. United deserved to win based on more possession and better chances and more players keeping their nerve and technique in the shoot out.
in terms of technical ability,no contest-its berbatov. hes the most talented player we've had technically since king eric. in terms of almost everything else, its rooney.hes the heart and soul of the team really, never say die attitude (even when it gets him sent off),he never stops running,he can pull a finish out of anywhere, he performs on the big stages and he never lets us down (except for the odd pointless red/gesture-but who wouldnt? :L) i love watching berbatov at his best, theres very few like him in the world, but hes a confidence player, and he doesnt get a lot of that at old trafford,so its best for him to move on.
Take the red tinted glasses off and view the game properly...yes in the first half we should have been 3 nil up hadnt it been for some brilliance from cech and some lack of concentration from tevez. However you cant take away the fact that the post saved us TWICE not the goalie but the post..and to say chelsea always look better in a cagey match im sorry mate but what are you trying to say?Chelsea played well as well..they got in by a lucky goal but didnt they deserve it? All that doesnt matter tho...we were lucky because had terry not slipped we would have most likely lost the game..the slip didnt really have anything to do with confidence..it was raining down buckets and fortunately he slipped and we won.Yes we deserved it if you look at the whole game but the point is we were lucky wether we deserved it or not...
Take the red tinted glasses off and view the game properly .......................... Take your blue tinted ones off. Because you watched a completely different CL Final than any United fan I know.
Please stop posting..your only making yourself look stupid. If you cant put forward any type of argument then its best you dont pollute these forums and do something with your life Valencia25 ------------- yes but those shots beat the goalie and had it been an inch this way or that then it wouldve been a goal....but my point is chelsea had really good chances as well..
Please stop posting..your only making yourself look stupid. .......................... Not quite sure how you figure this out, seeing as you are the only one with the opinion that United were lucky to beat Chelase in the CL final. Get a grip of yourself.
The post "saved us"? Wtf are you talking about? That makes no sense. It implies that if the post hadn't been there they would have been goals. But if the post hadn't been there the shots would have clean missed. They were shots that were off target, simples. Chelsea players missed the goal with both shots, just like they missed with their other 16 speculative long shots... And no, I don't think Chelsea did deserve their goal. It was a speculative long shot that deflected twice and wrong footed our keeper. Up until that point they had done virtually nothing in the game - the only save VDS had to make was from Rio's misheader! In fact, I cannot think of a single time in that game when Chelsea genuinely opened our defence up and caused us problems. It wasn't fortunate, it wasn't confidence, it was poor penalty technique. Everyone who has ever taken a penalty knows that the single most important thing to do is plant your standing foot firmly. Nine other players planted their standing foot firmly in the rain before Terry slipped, and four other players planted their standing feet firmly after he slipped. Terry missed the goal from 12 yards out, it is that simple. And you again conveniently ignore that had VDS not slipped in the first half, we would have won the game within the 90 minutes. So the Terry slip doesn't matter, cos if Chelsea hadn't been lucky they would have lost the game outright. If, if, if. If Giggs or Carrick had shot an inch higher we would have had three more goals. If Essien's shot had deflected 1 inch differently off Vidic then Chelsea wouldn't have scored. If John Terry could stand firmly on one leg like 13 other players managed to, he might have scored as well. And no, if it had been an inch this was or that it wouldn't have been a goal. If it had been an inch one way it would have been a goal, if it had been an inch the other it would have been a straight miss. Again, like the other 17. Yes Chelsea had two semi decent chances, but United had better chances, played better, dominated more of the game, and deserved to win.
