Ok so he missed the start of last season but still didn't get too much game time when he came back. If Bruce re-enforces midfield with new recruits, should we send Cairney out on loan to a Championship side?
I don't see any benefit to that though, we won't get a penny in a fee for him so why not loan him out get them to pay his wages? Incase he has a great year and we can sell him on, if it goes wrong we get rid at the end of his contract, a loan is win win.
some sense in that, just dont see him as a long term proposition, but if as you say has a good season elsewhere
On the other hand if he's not good enough get rid now. What if he got injured on a short term loan then were stuck paying wages for a player we don't want and can't get rid of
Pretty sure he's only got 12 months left on his deal... Id rather we sell him now than let him leave for nothing end of the season.
I don't think we'd get more than £500k for him. He looked ok at the end of our second season in the prem but hasn't done anything since he came back. He doesn't have the tackle we need nor the quality for attack.
A half a million for Cairney seems a little steep to me but if they get an offer like that I would snap their hand off
With our thin midfield, we'll probably keep him on as a bit part player. SB does rate him and were it not for his injury, he'd probably have featured a lot more last season. He's 22 now and he needs to be making progress in the first team; if he doesn't make an impact then I expect him to leave when his contract expires at the end of the season.
Cairney could have been a very competent midfielder but he has only got one foot. Either the coaches couldn't be bothered or Cairney couldn't be bothered but either way he has failed to improve his game. Altidore, when he was with us, was a one-footed player who's heading ability was next to zero but he did the 'hard yards' at AZ and can now use either foot and can use his head. Cairney is a wasted talent imo but has only himself to blame. Receiving the ball then having to work it round on to your 'good' foot is not good enough at this level. Shame really.
Bullshit point. So many players only use one foot, you never usually notice. Because its a players left foot with cairney, some people seem to think it a problem.
That there left foot,is the best foot in our squad. Do you have any idea, how many players are completely right footed. That never gets noticed, does it. Cairney looked more than good enough for premier football, when he was leaving the likes of Terry and Lampard flat footed. Some say he's had his chances, but has he? I have no doubt though, that he will be just another of the many young players that have been cast aside at this club. Edit: That's unless Steve Bruce believes otherwise...there is a chance that might still happen.
I have a feeling that at some point Steve Bruce will give Cairney another opportunity to show that he can make it in the Prem. Surely his performances last time can't have just been a fluke or down to him being an unknown quantity to the opposition. The first time I saw him play I thought he stood out as a real talent (home cup match to Everton I think) and then when he started playing in the Prem, like everyone else, I thought we had a top midfielder on our hands but something has gone awry along the way. Personally, I think it's a real shame and presumably, like a most others, would love him to prove everybody wrong. I hope he stays and at some point get's that chance and grasps it with one left foot!
If he's not going to play I'd loan him out to a Championship side but importantly it needs to one who is going to play him. It's so annoying seeing our promising youngsters get loaned out to a club that is no more likely than we are to actually play them. It's something that's held our youngsters back for too long. Townsend got a full season at Grimsby and it seems to have been great for him leading to another full season at Chesterfield a league above. He's the exception though unfortunately.
Are there not rules regarding 'home grown players' in a team's 25 man squad, I thought (not sure on details) that you had to have x amount of players (think it's 4??) that were trained for x amount of time at the club between the age of 16 and 21?? If i'm right then surely Cairney would be named in our 25 man squad. Correct me if i'm wrong. Edit: just googled this I'm thinking of the champions league squad rules Maybe next year
It is down to Tom now. If he gets back to his 2009/10 PL form then SB will want to keep in in the squad.
