I think it's a distinct possibility that Chambers, Shaw, Ward-Prowse and Lallana could all be on the pitch at the same time next season, and this is pretty exciting.
Can he only play at Right back? I'm sure I've heard him playing in other positions for the under 21's
I believe (Certainly others who will know more), that his progression has been from centre-mid to winger and then back to full-back, I'd guess he'd still be fairly comfortable in any of those positions though although from what little I have seen of him not sure he has the tools to be a CM in the Prem. More versatility though, certainly a good thing, next season we could be immensely negative at points in games if we wanted to, like late in a game subbing on Fox, Cork and Chambers, Fox to play LM, Cork to join Morgan and Vic in a three-man CM brick wall and Chambers to play RM with some hapless chap wandering around on his own up front. That would be tough to get through.
I can live with that, Arsenal fans can moan all they want, they can continue to win nothing while we get points from playing 'negatively' every now and then while keeping possession and playing attractive footie the rest of the time.
Even the Americans are noticing the "Southampton Way": http://prosoccertalk.nbcsports.com/...ahead-for-southampton-fcs-academy-prospects/?
The Academy makes youngsters play in different positions, presumably to widen their experience and make them understand what their team mates are doing. Looks like Calum is now considered to be an understudy to Clyne.
Really glad to see Chambers get a new contract 2 years ago he was rumoured to be one of the next stars but last season I saw posts questioning whether his contract would be extended. I feared he could be the next Callum McNish! The new crop of youngsters making a mark on the first team is exciting and I think their versatility is a great aspect such as Chambers being able to play down the whole right side or CM, Stephens can step in at DM and Targett can slot in to Centre Back despite playing mainly at Left Back and I'm sure there is others I've failed to mention. I hope that this means the young players do get opportunities and not just rot like at some other clubs although as we've experienced before if they're ready they tend to be played. I think that Chambers longevity of contract and that the Club released Butterfeild and Richardson and so far have not followed any interest in another right back despite the 6mil the Daily Fail quoted us as having set aside for one, this clearly shows MoPo sees a real bright future for him. It also says a lot that he seems so happy to be pushing for the first team at Southampton, and although it is the Daily Star, shunned interest from Liverpool to pledge his future too us. If this is true it we stand to make a lot more money out of him now as I assume that transfer would have followed those very strange EPPP or whatever it is rules.
Good to see us continually linked to big names in the transfer market, but there's nothing better than seeing youngsters forcing their way into the first team set-up. I remember very clearly the likes of Alan Shearer, MLT & Gareth Bale breaking through, but I think it was somewhat easier in those days? When you consider the physical and mental demands of the current Premiership, it is quite remarkable to see what Luke Shaw and JWP achieved last season considering their age?
Not always the case he still plays in midfield now and again for England. He is just a versatile player that can play many positions.
Daily Star (I know!) reporting online that Chambers if ores interest from Liverpool to sign that deal. Do they think that we are now competing with Liverpool for every player?
They also said, once upon a time, that Liverpool were after the starlet known as Olly Lancashire. But good news for Chambers, another to watch and he is more than capable of being Clynes understudy this year. Good stuff.
I've finally worked out that if ores is ignores but hitting the letter F & space bar instead of the G and N. It took a little while, but I loke tp wirk these thongs out.
