If we can get Fernandes, Sess will shine. He will have someone else the opposition will have to watch aswell, freeing him up. Imagine Fletch/Jozy Giacc - Sess - AJ Manu Cabral Awesome.
He should not need to defend mate. Which of the top attacking midfielders have you ever seen being overly defensive, and I mean proper CAM's, not the likes of Xavi & Iniesta who rotate? An attacking midfielder should be in space to find the ball, turn, run, pass & shoot, his defensive duties should be limited in the extreme. Cabral is a beat of a lad, his job is to protect the back 4, win balls, receive balls, and feed AJ, Giacc, and CAM (Sess)
Probably more like Fletch/Jozy ------Sess Giacc - Manu - AJ ------ Cabral Which would give, in theory, options galore for passing wide or through the middle, nut would be a little stretched.
Sess has come in for a lot of stick due to his quiet start to last season. If you look at his previous contributions since he joined us and his performances in the latter half of last season, then it seems strange to want to get rid of him. I know there's moves to reduce the wage bill, but surely quality players are worth the money? I think we'll see a lot more from him this season - but not as a striker Comm!
Curious mate, where do he fit into the new team? Maybe PDC is gonna fall into the trap of the previous 2 managers, and see him as a 2nd striker.....hopefully not. He is a good player, but one as yet, no manager at SAFC seems to have got the best out of yet... So where should he be played?
To my mind it would be madness to sell him... When preparing to play against us which other players in our squad as at the end of last season (before he got himself banned!) does anyone think the opposition had a specific plan to prevent him "doing his stuff"? On his day he really is top drawer - PDC showed at the end of last season that he could get the best out of him (albeit briefly before he was sent off!). Who else last year would cause any other team to be concerned...McClean "give him the ball lads - he`ll **** it up"; AJ - "he`ll run backwards 95% of the time"; Gardner/Vaughan "nosebleeds if they get past half way - divn`t worry"; DG "hahahahahahahahaha"... We have more attacking options now which (fingers crossed) will make others think about those threats and mean inevitably that Sess gets more time and space and is able to do much more with it. Happy Days
I think he needs to be in a three in midfield but at the same time we have never seen him play in a 2 so we just don't know. I think he works very hard when he is defending and wins the ball a lot. He could of course press while Cabral sits. Its a nice problem to have, personally I would possibly play Sess on the wing and drop Johnson, play Fernades in the middle (if we sign up) and have 2 up top with Fletch playing off Altidore. Have 2 pacy attack minded full backs so Giac and Sess could come inside, I could see us murdering teams. Johnson would be first in if the other 2 were injured or suspended.
I'd give him a free role ONE of Fletcher and Altidore as the striker Giaccherini and Johnson on the wings Cabral and a new cm playmaker in the middle Sess just moving into space dragging defenders about
He kept us up mate, make no mistake. His goals in the run in and his destruction of the Mags kept us up. He should be played as an out and out attacking midfielder behind 2 strikers in my opinion, having 2 stirkers to watch naturally would create space and Sess would be a weapon in that space. People can say it would leave us open, but football is about entertainment, I'm happy for us to lose a few 3-2, 4-3, and win a few 3-2, 4-3. We are better served than ever to attack people now, we need the focus to be on that.
No mate, Mig kept us up... Sess is a fantastic player, but please excuse some of us for not buying into the hype... It's all about opinions, and until he get's a settled position. which is not as a striker.?
I know what you're saying Comm, because it has never been easy to accommodate him anywhere for too long. He's had to do a lot of filling in over his time with us. I'd sort of agree with what PP is saying, but I also think that PDC will vary our set-up according to who we are facing, rather than trot out the same old faces. Not that I'm saying we'll be rotating the squad, cos as yet we're miles away from being able to do that successfully.
For what? Not one major team has ever come in for him,he's a clever player, but seemingly an unwanted one, by other clubs.
If we are going to persist with him then he has to be given a free role behind Altidore and Fletcher in an attacking front 5 with Johnson and Giacharini. Cabral looks more than capable of being the defensive monster behind them through which none shall pass. That front 5 would terrorize defenses with power, pace and creativity and with Fletch as the goal machine (I think he is a 20 goal a season striker if service is upped).
I've said it before and I'll say it again Cabral will be partnered with a cm playmaker, we cannot get away with playing just one cm. Any team that plays with more than 1 cm (which will be pretty much everyone) would be able to pass around Cabral. It doesn't matter how good he is. The fact Di Canio has openly stated that he wants a playmaker cm tells us that Cabral won't be playing on his own anyway. Also PDC has stated he sees Sessengon as a striking option meaning if he starts he'll start with another striker, not 2 That's my view on things
We can only play ten outfield players so Sess can't play behind two strikers unless you think he is a play maker, Marcus, I agree with you, he is one of the best players outside the top four. His position is in the hole behind a lone striker, when OâNeill was here Sess covered every inch of the pitch realistically doing too much and as such he was not quite as effective as he should be. In the short time PDC has managed him, he seems more focused him and disciplined in his positional play making him more effective. He might not play every game under PDC who will select his team to match the opposition, I can see Fletch and Altidore starting against physical teams, but hopefully we can hang on to him because he is an asset we canât afford to lose.
Simple solution is to do away with four at the back and our none existant fullbacks. Thereby freeing another spot for midfield/upfront.
