Yeah ill agree with that. I cant see us paying over 50k a week anytime soon. I think pushing at 40k would probably be our limit.
I think michu was on 30k when he first joined, but he signed a new contract in Jan so god knows what hes on now . Agreed hernandez was becomming a bit part player at Valencia, hence why we were quick to snap him up. As for Bony, I've no idea what we are paying him but I cant imagine its anything less than 35k. Crazy money when you say it out loud!
Caulker is a very good player for an average premier league team. But he will one day become a very good player in a top premier league team (if that makes sense?). But paying over 10m when you only have 25m to spend - not sure how true this is - can be seen as a bit of a gamble. Because even though he will definitely improve your defence, I think you could pay a lot less money for a player that is just as good now but has no room for improvement.
Looks like Tan is sanctioning the future then, not just the present. As for the "£25M" that has been bandied about since Vince first mentioned it - that has gone out of the window in my opinion. Vince is charging Malky to keep us in the Prem and progress - he'll fund that target with whatever it'll take
I think Bony will be on more than that. Others were interested and 13mill record signing strikers expect record signing wages. I'd be shocked if Michu didn't break the 50k barrier when he extended. He had CL clubs talking about him.
When Blackpool came up they got in a load of PL reserves. They got relegated. Reading got in nobody really and got relegated. QPR got in overrated, over the hill players and got relegated. City will get relegated unless they get in quality players, whether they be expensive foreigners or the likes of caulker or hit lucky like Swansea. Mackay said today on talksport that he could get in 7-8 £1m players but they would not improve what he has got here. I disagree. McNaughton, Cowie, Conway, Connelly, Lewis etc are not PL quality. If he can not get in these expensive targets then he has to look for hungry, talented PL outcasts or promising Championship or foreign players on the cheap. I question whether his scouting network is good enough.
Ok I am unsure if Gunnarson, Whittingham, Noone, Turner, Hudson, Taylor, Smith, Brayford, Marshall, Maynard will be good enough. Only IMO Cornelius, Campbell and Bellamy will be anywhere near the standard.
Bit sweeping there Nin, but we ain't gonna replace that lot this summer. It's step up to the plate time for those guys.
Team organisation and spirit can count for a bit as well particularly against the less strong teams. QPR had neither and look what happened to them. At least half of that second list need to really show what they are made of plus another 3 or 4 to come in.
Gunnar, Hudson or Turner (assuming Caulker signs) , Marshall I feel pretty sure about. I don't now much about Brayford but the Derby fans loved him. Witts has been offered PL football pretty much every season which says something. I said on another thread I thought Taylor was one of it not the best LB in the championship last season. We know he's slow but what will it cost to make a decent improvement on him? Noone 'on his day' will cause problems, on his off days he'll be as useless as he was at times last season. He scores outstanding goals though and they'll transfer to the PL. Maynard needs to actually play 10-15 games in a row before anyone can really make a judgement. Smith I have more than doubts about and I believe he is a good championship player at best.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/teams/cardiff-city Getting serious. BBC reporting he's having the medical.
Was just about to post the BBC details, looks likely now and I think it would be a good signing for us... Lets hope it's not another Capoue of accepted and no more heard
If he's having a medical, then he's agreed personal terms. The only way we won't get him now is if the deal is hijacked before he signs on the dotted line.
