Hi There, Basically.. I'm moving out from home (been using dad's car) and the rents have said i have to get my own (fair enough) seen one of these, in black, looks quite nice. its £3,800.00. It has 40,000 miles on the clock. 1.1 litre. Is that a good deal? would be hoping to pay around £3,400.00 i.e haggle down.

Wouldn't touch it with a barge pole, it's French, and a rip off at that price. Go for a VW/Audi/seat/skoda. Solid cars that won't let you down. My golf just hit 120k and still looks and drives like brand new. Also piss easy to do any work with, French cars are a nightmare they're built like a maze, and parts are usually quite dear for them too. You can't go wrong with a motor from the vw group.
I've had two French cars (N reg Clio & 06 plate Megan) and they both were troublesome. Got a Toyota now, very reliable
Agreed, anything German. The French car will dissolve before your very eyes. I had a Laguna as a rep mobile many years ago - it was a complete sack of ****, plus it was brand new, so in theory shouldn't have had as many issues as it did.
I just got a 05 clio (last of the old shape) 1.1 with less than 50k on the clock for £1,900 if that's any help.
Son - do yourself a favour, get an Austin allegro (beige interior natch), the birds will be dripping just at the sight- just add brut
Sounds expensive ... shop around and don't rush and do your homework ... don't know if they still do it but when I was serious about a car in my younger days I got an RAC check done on my chosen car. for me money well spent. Good Luck!!!
My first car was a 10 year old Clio, I had it a further 3 years with next to no issues. The thing with them is you need the seller to prove it's had a new CAM belt in the last year or so as that's what they're known for getting ****ed on, if not get them to knock an extra £150 or so off and get one sorted. Also there was a recall a few years ago about the bonnet latch of most old Clios, apparently some people were driving down the motorways at high speed and their bonnet just sort of flew off... So just make sure all these checks are done and you could well be ok. Although it does seem a bit steep price wise! Even though it's fairly low in mileage. Definitely look around more before buying this car as there should be better deals out there. Hope his helps
I'd even look at a Skoda Fabia or a Seat Ibiza - similar size, but part of the VW group, so the benefit of a lot of VW parts and engineering. Failing that think green and use public transport - which is still a better option than a French car
could prob get yourself a mini for that ok mayb a year or two older but a much better car. Ive a beemer diesel which is fab but not sure what insurance is like for a yound driver mine is 325 full comp with no no claims but im not that far of 40 so prob why it cheap lol
