well, we do have a statue, a house, a sixth form college & various Streets n stuff. I share the surname BTW but no relation apparently, "from the wrong side of the bed" my great Granddad reckoned who spent a lot of time trying to prove we were. I will sit in quiet contemplation for a while...
He went to my school. Before my time though. Ralph Ineson went there too - almost before my time but I remember him (just)
Hi Stan, back in 2007 I directed and produced a five part BBC radio drama called 'The Chronicles of Freedom'. This was about Wilberforce's work on the abolition of slavery bill. You might recall that Hull was celebrating this event during that year. I wanted to record the drama on location (using Wilberforce's House, Guildhall etc) and asked Hull City council about it. They wanted to charge me about £1400 for 2 nights. I thought feck that, I went off and did it in Lincoln instead for a tenth of that! I felt bad but also pretty angry. So I wouldn't hold your breath... Mind you, I've just moved back to Hull now after 17 years away, so I'll try to be kind to them (grrrrr!) Just thought, I might have to change my name on here now!
I was in his house name at school, that's as close as I get to him. Although I have been to Freetown in S Leone where he is quite famous.
