Two chances? The offside goal (which should have stood) was Puncheon's wasn't it? Or are you referring to something else?
The club obviously believe in him as well, let's face it anything resembling dead-wood didn't get on the plane. If Pochettino didn't think he had a part to play he would have been playing in Eastleigh last night.
I dunno. I don't have a particularly strong opinion on Mayuka's ability because I haven't seen much of him but given that we usually start Lambert and Rodriguez, given that there were several games where we needed a goal late on and given that Lambert was supposedly carrying a knock towards the end of the season I would have expected Mayuka to get a fair bit of game time. He still only played 60 minutes in total under Poch so I think it's understandable why people have decided the manager doesn't really rate him.
Yeah, I'm pretty sure it was Puncheon who ventured offside, and Mayuka that scored. Edit : Just watched it again, Mayuka definitely the scorer.
Good win and one which saw two more youngsters enjoying time on the pitch. Chambers and Isgrove are both good prospects.
I have been guilty of that. I blame the trip to Leeds I hope he does perform for us and puts me firmly in my place.
Good that we have Cork to cover for Clyne, but I hope Nathan isn't out too long. Even Cork didn't seem to know how bad it was. Isgrove looks promising...he's nippy and although 5'10 () may be overlooked by opposition players. Pleased to see him so happy. Be interesting to see what happens to the young lads when they get back to Blighty...first team or U21s. May depend on signings I suppose. Good way to finish the tour. Also congratulations to the media team for not saying 'Turkish delight.'
Read the match thread on SaintsWeb. Sad I know, but I like to read comments by people who don't know the result. Very different from comments on here...could have been a different match. Apparently we were dreadful (until the 3 goals went in). Interestingly, the two posters who were at the match were more positive and had a great time (once the Turkish drummer was sent packing). Another said that Mauricio seemed to have no idea of his best team...seemed to have missed the point that these games are all mix and match to gain information and to improve fitness. An interesting point made was that we appeared much fitter later in the game than Besiktas. I have only seen the highlights....were we dreadful? One comment was that Nicola was wearing green shorts which were not a good look...someone should tell him that he should only wear a suit, although a single undone shirt button is allowable if the temperature tops 90 deg.
I only watched the second half, but we weren't dreadful. Not exactly great until the last 20 but about what you'd expect from a preseason game. The comment about not knowing his best team based on preseason is ridiculous.
