Right while I'm sure Hughton and McNally will continue to look for more position we can strengthen we're probably close to our full compliment. If the season started tomorrow what team would you play? I'd go with:

    ---------------------Ruddy----------------------

    Martin -- Bassong -- Bennett -- Olssen

    Snodgrass -- Fer -- Howson -- Redmond

    ------------------------- van Wolfswinkle-----

    -------------------- Hooper---------------------

I'd replace Martin with Whittaker, but otherwise agree. It will be interesting to see the starting line-ups on the next 2 Saturdays!

I pretty much agree with that starting 11. Although I wasn't that convinced about Howson, but the last few games of last season he showed his quality.

Carra, interested to know if you'd adjust that formation home or away?

Yes I would, I would probably drop Surman for away games and swap wings for Redmond with Snodgrass coming in.

That's a formation I quite like but I'd want a player better than Fox.

Howson could slot in there. Looks like the old Lambert diamond...

    ------------ Ruddy ----------------
    Martin Bassong Bennett Olsson

    ------------- Fer. -----------------
    Snodgrass. ----------------- Redmond
    --------------Howson

    ------Van Wolf
    –----------------- Hooper

Howson is geared to run or pass in forward diagonal, I think we'd concede possession way to much even if Wolfswinkle played close to him. I like Howson but it he'll only link the forward players. Hooper would get little benefit from that formation I think.

I'm not so sure Carra. I think Howson could be the CAM type to put those diagonal balls thru for Hooper and Wolf and with support from wings plus Olsson i think its quite an exciting option. I'm also thinking of the extra support and therefore perhaps time he'll have with Fer about.
Regardless tho, seemed the diamond was sussed out by other teams last season quite quickly.

Hi, just joined! Living in Edinburgh (but born in Norwich) I watch a great deal of games in Scotland, mostly Celtic. I think many Norwich fans will be surprised by how Gary Hooper actually plays. For Celtic he invariably played slightly behind Samaras when they played together and along-side Stokes as a front two (often with Commons behind) but his style didn't vary that much and he used to regularly fall back to the right hand side of midfield to collect the ball (and run with it) from Brown. I certainly wouldn't expect him to play ahead of van Wolfswinkel, I think if anything their roles may be reversed to what you have here, but more likely they will play in a front two ie as Hooper did with Stokes. with someone playing in the Celtic Kris Commons role, which from the current squad could be Howson, Hoolahan or even Pilkington. Another option could be to move Snodgrass there, especially if more pace was required on the wings. So I think the formation at home could be a notional 4-3-1-2, reverting to a 4-4-2 while defending (and away). So for me, it would be: Ruddy - Martin, Bassong, Bennett, Olssen - Redmond, Fer, Pilkington - Snodgrass - Hooper, van Wolfswinkel. But I think Hughton may keep Snodgrass on the right, play Redmond on the left and Pilkington behind the front two. But that obviously depends on how much Redmond plays, with the option of Pilkington replacing him and bringing in Howson. I find it inconceivable that Pilkington won't start somewhere.
