@astroturfnaught - not entirely sure why your comment is so "DER the CL final F00000l!1!!" - when my comment said off the top of my head without bothering to go and look up any info on Liverpool - forgive me for forgetting how well a team i dont support did in one cup competition 6-8 years ago. So i had aknowledged already i may have missed out info on liverpool. So combatative for no reason....

Even including that CL final though it's clear in recent history that Arsenal have been the bigger club. I'd rank the last 10-15 years as 1st - United, 2nd - Arsenal, 3rd - Chelsea, just taking the last 10 years Chelsea would be above us. Liverpool dont make the top 3 for the last 10, 15 or even 20 years.

Because your pathetic little rant doesn't look so good when you inject a bit of reality.

Your league final appearances then has to be compared to an actual win. Your CL final compares to 2 finals in 3 years, including a win.

Your PL stands but is a long time ago and another manager's team.

No one denies Wenger's CL qualification record is commendable, but you shouldn't deny that his actual trophy return is apalling either.

You don't go to Arsenal to win things, you go to be seen playing in the CL so another team can buy you. Ask RVP.

The invincibles another Managers team? Are you having a laugh? Wenger started at Arsenal in 1996, the Invincibles was 2004, 8 years after he had started at the club. Henry and Pires where the two stars for Arsenal that year with 39 and 19 goals each in all competitions that year - both where Wenger signings. I'm not going to go through the entire team to disprove you because i've seen it done before and so im confident that im right when i say the majority of the squad where Wenger players 8 years after he had taken over, and most definately the first team and key players. It was voted the best team of the Premier League era. There is no way that league win can be shrugged off...

As far as Wengers trophy haul is concerned - 3 EPL titles - thats more premier league titles than any other manager than Ferguson and any other team than Utd (joint with Chelsea), one of those titles was the invincibles and two where part of doubles. 4 FA Cups - one less than Ferguson, making him the joint 4th most successful manager ever in the tournament, 2nd most successful post 1930 behind SAF. 4 Community shields - thats 25% of the community shields available during the time he has been Arsenal manager - again second only to Utd who in that time have won 6.

So domestically in his time at Arsenal he has a trophy haul second only to Ferguson and Utd. I'm pretty sure in that time we only come second in league positions to Utd as well and in appearances in finals as well. Despite not winning in Europe Wenger holds records for consecutive appearances, consecutive times through the group stages, a few other minor records, several quarter finals and semi finals and a final.

Being voted Manager of the Decade was the jewel is his crown of personal achievements having won several different Manager of the year awards, most of them on more than one occasion.

Thats not to mention all the other positive things that have happened surrounding the club whilst he has been at the helm including the stadium, the fantastic players we have seen at the club, growth of the business and maintaining top level football - something liverpool have failed to do - while competing with the super rich clubs.

Granted in recent years (going on 8 now) he has not managed to get the team over that line and bring home trophies despite several finals and a close title run in 08, but considering all the other factors that come into it i'd say he has done a very good job.

It's really not worth trying to put down Wenger as a manager - heis one of the top 2 Managers the Premiership has seen.

(oh and i have realised i forgot your 1 final vs 2 argument for the CL - im sure if you look back since Wenger has been at Arsenal and our comparative performances in the CL and we have consistently out performed Liverpool over those 16 years i.e. im sure on average we have finished higher in the competition, especially consider how many times more we have been in the competition and to its later stages in that time. But i will give it to you that you have done well in europe within the last decade on a couple of occasions and did manage to win the trophy :) )

Despite all of your efforts if you took a global poll tomorrow as to which team was the biggest then I'm sure that arsenal would come a poor second. That doesn't make you a poor club just not as famous a club. You can do the same exercise with say Ajax - Arsenal would lose again.

I think you'll find your living in the past my friend. It's ok, it seems to be a common problem up in your part of the country ;)

Arsenal have a larger global fanbase than Liverpool do - on top of a better stadium, higher value, better financial deals in place, better squad and better platform to return to winning trophies than Liverpool.

Saying Wenger is the 2nd most successful Premier League era manager means little when he is also the 2nd longest serving. Wenger and Arsenal have the same problem - they consider it a success to just be there and make up the numbers.

You just compared "consistent performances over 16 years" to THAT NIGHT IN ISTANBUL for ****'s sake, I don't know whether to laugh or cry at your mentality.

What is wrong with living in the north west ?
We do not have a bigger global fan base than Liverpool and whilst we may have a bigger stadium Liverpool still have an average gate of approx. 44,000.I would love to see our average gate if we were in Liverpool's position

Oh shut up you stupid old man, dont be so condecending - go have a cup of milk and go to bed.

I say that Wengers FA Cup wins are 4th joint ever, and 2nd post 1930 - which is true.

    1st George Ramsey - 6 FA Cups - last one in 1920
2nd Thomas Mitchell 5 FA Cups - last one in 1891
    =Alex Ferguson - 5 FA Cups
    4th Arsene Wenger - 4 FA Cups

As far as i can find this information seems correct. So what exactly is making me look like a fool?

The player has made it clear he want`s to leave the club and it has been widely publicised (so no tapping up), the club have a "clause" which states he can talk to any club who offers above £40 million pound for him. Regardless of how the contract is worded there is not a tribunal in the land that would not see this as the club saying if someone offered more than the stated price the player would be allowed to leave if he wished. Arsenal have met this value the club put on him, the only chance Liverpool have of getting more is if someone else bids more, since nobody else has shown the slightest interest i fear you will have to accept £40,000,000 + £1.00.

    @goonercym

We do have a larger global fanbase than Liverpool - you seem to be living in the past as well Old Man ;)

Go find some recent figures and im sure you'll find all 3 of Arsenal, Utd and Chelsea in the top 5 along with Barca and Real. With Liverpool lingering somewhere between 6th and 10th.

And there is nothing wrong with living in the north west - spent the best part of 2 years living in the north west - lovely people and enjoyed my time there :) Not sure where your getting the idea i have a problem with the north west of the country?

Some reports say that Liverpool only have to inform Suarez if a bid of over £40M is made. There seems to be a number of contradictory statements over the actual wording of the contract and as far as I can see nobody seems to know the truth.
