What will happen with that white elephant now? Coventry have got a provisional agreement on one of 2 of their preferred sites. Whilst football is probably very low down on the commercial agenda of the stadium operators. It does seem absurd to have no football team playing their. I have used the conference facilities their a few times, just seems a waste in my opinion. CCFC need to work through a solution.
This is obviously a ploy to get back into the Ricoh on the cheap, it would be ridiculous to do anything else.
It would, but the chairman has suggested there's no u-turn. Home games to be played at Sixfields - Northampton. Long term agreement signed. Site one agreement signed. He's not paying lip service, he's actively looking at moving.
I used to drive past that stadium so many times in Coventry - it looks impressive. Think a number of concerts have been held there - but is Coventry big enough to have a venue just for conferences and concerts?
Been there a couple of times, not impressed it's like it's never been properly finished and loads of snagging needs doing, and the atmosphere is worse than the KC.
The atmosphere is terrible, it's a bit weird in there, it's too much of a bowl. And the blind football they did ahead of kick off at our last game there was simply bizarre.
Ricoh - been there twice - the most soulless of all new stadia - roof line keeps same level as that of the main Conference/Arena bit and has too much glass/perspex at the top row of the seats to give it a less than homely feel. Ridiculous to seek another site in the city even though they've signed up(seemingly to playing at the Sixfields - again rather stupid decision when it holds only two thirds of Coventry's average home attendance. The City Council own a large share of the Stadium so I don't understand why some agreement to much reduced rent (currently I believe about £1.3m pa) cant be sought - that said lots of politics going on and as usual the ordinary supporter gets shafted. Salutary lessons hopefully to be learned for both the Allams and Hull CC.
At this rate they'll become the new Brighton & HA once they sold the Goldstone Ground but Coventry's case it is self inflicted - knock head together sharpish springs to mind..
