Cheltenham Town midfielder trains with the club. Out-of-contract Cheltenham Town midfielder Marlon Pack is training with City in a bid to earn a move to Ashton Gate. The 22-year-old’s deal at Whaddon Road has expired, but the League Two side will be due compensation should Pack transfer to City. He has spent the past two days training at Failand and has been given permission to feature for City in their pre-season friendly at Bournemouth tomorrow (3pm), subject to receiving insurance. Head coach Sean O’Driscoll is keen to see the player – who been named in the League Two team of the year twice – at close quarters. Pack has already been linked with a move to Crawley Town this summer and has also spent time training with Portsmouth. It was with Pompey where Pack began his football career, coming through the South Coast’s club’s youth setup. He spent time on loan with Wycombe Wanderers, Dagenham & Redbridge and Cheltenham Town, before turning his deal with the latter permanent in 2011. But on Wednesday, following the unfortunate cruciate knee ligament suffered by midfielder Liam Kelly, Pack asked to be given the opportunity to trial with the club.
I have no problems with signing players from whatever league if they are better than other options we have, we have signed players from the championship JET and Wagstaff, Premiership U 21's Williams and Wynter L1 Flint so why not L2 if he is good enough we should sign him, regarding a replacement for Davies if we can't get the players S O'D wants then we should be looking at the loan market Arsenal and Manchester United both bring up their youngsters to play football so why not look there? From what I have read Sean is well respected by managers at the top level for the way he wants his players to play so we could easily be in with a shout. Let's ask the Professor and the Moose if they have likely players they want to get some match time.
SOD has talked a lot about 'a new dynamic' in the squad, so he is aware that a fresh approach is needed. Once again, the manager has his hands tied by financial restraints and a lack of conviction by the board
Well if it all goes tits up we wont be able to blame it on what sod has inherited. Fielding Moloney Flint Williams Wynter Wagstaff Pack JET All his players.
As far as I can remember Sean has never blamed the players for failures the nearest he ever comes is he says the attitude or the group dynamic was wrong but he also says it is up to him and the staff to change that. What we still need is another striker now Davies has gone and hopefully a couple of good young defenders so we have cover for RB and CB sorry the thought of Wilson as the cover for RB and CB doesn't fill me with confidence.
i hope he is that good, i can remember him scoring a stunning free kick for Cheltenham, but apart from that, when i ve seen him, nothing special, hope i'm wrong!!
Interesting. They haven't followed Harewood who is on twitter. Maybe we might be signing him! SOD did have the meeting today and perhaps they said "What the **** are you doing asking us stutterer. Give the kid a ****ing contract already!!"
Perhaps they follow anyone who is on trial as well just in case they put something up that the club does not like?
It's Burt who does the contracts now Shiny. Sean says who he would like but Burt does the negotiations.
Well if that's true why not follow them when they first arrive? Seems strange that today is the meeting to decide whether or not if we will take pack on and the club follow him Im hoping to wake up tomorrow and see him holding the city shirt sat in the atyeo
