I'm a thread virgin :emoticon-0111-blush so be gentle.
With all the speculation regarding signing a new keeper, whether its De Gea, Neuer, Stekelenburg, or whoever it maybe, how does Lindegaard fit in to the grand scheme of things? Is he good enough to be a no 1 or will he do a Kuszczak and warm the bench?

Kuszczak will leave and Lindegaard will become number 2!

I agree, although I'm hoping Lindegaard can also challenge the new No.1 better than Kusczak challenged VDS. It's always good to have a solid backup keeper in case the first choice gets injured or suffers a dip in form. Btw, Neuer has now definitely signed for Bayern.

P.S. Welcome to the forum Caesar!

    Cheers mate,

Like alot of people I was quite surprised when we signed Lindegaard, and I not seen anything of him, but by the sounds of things he may only get to play Carling Cup games and the odd league match.
Any preferences as to who you would like to see come in as no1?

Its tricky finding a keeper who'll do well at a club like United. Its all well and good stopping shots in a team that is constantly under pressure, but at a top club you could be a spectator for most of the match and then suddenly be called into action. IMO its why the likes of Howard and Foster failed with us but look so good for their current clubs.

De gea looks the most likely candidate, and I trust we've done our homework on him, but there is a huge element of luck involved.

He will be number 2. Number 1 is a massive issue. It doesn't matter how much homework is done on VDS replacement because nobody can predict how a keeper will react at United. The pressure is imense but the odds are he may only have to make one big save a game, but he will have to be competent in everything else, no flapping at crosses etc. That is the problem, being in goal for united isnt about making great saves, its about concentration, conveying confidence and distribution, meanwhile looking completely comfortable and in control. What worries me about De Gea is that hes at a club where he is kept busy. I would prefer that Ajax keeper, he iis solid and at a club similar to united where he is at one of the countries' best teams. A lot of luck invloved.

Can't see anything that would unsettle you.

Is it because I'm not called Julius??

I'd probably prefer Stekelenburg cos of his experience, but then Barthez was experienced when he joined us and that didn't work all that well. I think De Gea will do just fine if he joins, and is young enough to develop and improve for the long term.
