Starting to feel like we'll be lucky to see anyone join us before the new season gets underway.

    Pardew is not worried though:

"We've got Premier League games, a League Cup programme and a FA Cup programme and we can cope with that easily with the squad we have.”

I'll agree that the squad is good when you overlook the attack, however this sort of comment from Pardew seems to very much contradict his other interviews pushing for striker signings.

It seemed as though he had been attempting to pressure Kinnear into actually doing something... but if that is so then the above quote is the last thing he should be saying. Wondering where the goals are going to come from? No Ba replacement and the future of Cisse up in the air, no new strikers, talk of Campbell being loaned out and Ameobi being the last man standing...

it's frankly ridiculous. Somehow, we are still dealing with the same problem we had when Carroll left, since then we had 6 months to a year of actually having more than one useful striker and even then we were cying out for players in other positions. If you had no intention of buying a striker then what in the ****ing **** were you doing selling off Best? I actually really missed him last season
Watching Norwich have an offer for Hooper accepted whilst having just bought Van Wolfswinkel makes me laugh at Pardew's theory that strikers are much harder to sign. The best thing for Pardew to do would be to distance himself from Joe, even go loggerheads with him in the press, but he won't, making all his comments appear drastically more spineless every time.

We need proper reinforcements in attacking areas. Two strikers and winger. We shouldn't even need that useless **** Shola as an option anymore. Its quite frankly embarrassing to still have him at our club for another season.

Exactly, Shola would have been useful last season for Europa League group games, as demonstrated by his ability to score against those Portuguese minnows. However, did we even use him that much? regardless, for any game in the premiership, even against those just promoted, he is nowhere near good enough for the subs bench and last season it was frustrating watching him coming on instead of Campbell who at least holds more promise.
oh well i'm sure I'll get my wish this season as Cisse gets injured two weeks into the season, breaking a leg celebrating a big win on the horses down at the bookies, and we have to watch Campbell thrown in at the deep end to play with our resident donkey up front up til, and then after, January

Good news ? Bad news ?

"Lyon chairman and owner Jean-Michel Aulas says the French club have received three offers for 27-year-old striker Bafetimbi Gomis. Aulas had already confirmed to French television channel Canal+ that Newcastle are one of the clubs interested in the forward, who scored 16 goals in 37 games last season and has just one year to run on his current contract."

With no Europa League this season, and hopefully nowhere near as many injuries, our squad should be able to cope.

    I reckon just below mid-table... 12th probably.

Great for Ashley, doesn't have to add to the squad unless we sell Cabaye, Krul, Cisse or Ben Arfa for a profit, on account of not qualifying for Yewrope.

I doubt we'll sign anyone... I thought we may have got a striker, but with Shola staying put, it looks like nobody coming in.

Don't you just love the ambition?

Stand still and you go backwards. You have a good first 11, but are you going to be able to field that in all 38 games + cup games? Are all the players going to be on form? Will their hearts be in it? Drama behind the scenes/in the management situation too. All the ingredients are there for a difficult season.

We've learned the stand still/gobackwards lesson twice in recent year. finished 3rd, signed no one but bowyer on a free.

last year, finished 5th, signed Anita.

I don't think we're going to make that mistake again. I hope

How Colo doesn't want to be there, neither does Cisse. Cabaye was there last season in body but not spirit. HBA doesn't feature regularly, Tiote ain't all that etc. Get them all firing and you look good for the top half, but can that be done over an entire season?

You need strenghthening whether you convince yourselves otherwise or not.

Cisse situation has been resolved at least. That'll be like a new signing I should think.

And the Gosling - Palace move has broken down. Like another new signing! We're being showered in riches.

Haven't got today's Ronnie yet but I saw the headline on the back page as I went through the town and it had something like, 'Good news about Colo' on it.'

Was talking to somebody that works at SJP in a pub last night and asked about any incomings and he said none at the moment.

Going down to Blackpool for the friendly on Sunday, would be nice to see a new face unleashed down there.

I think we're going down. We only have 11 players able to play at PL level.

Then look at Sunderland. They have 25 world class ones, all proven in the PL.

He also said he'd had no bid from Newcastle either. Interesting to see that nearly every player we are interested in never get a bid registered from us. Our management team are mouth and no trousers.

Not sure where quote comes from but I'm sure I've seen a quote where the Lyon Chairman was tweeting that 3 clubs interested in Gomis as opposed to 3 offers made.

Anyway, here's clutching at them straws.....

Bugger. I'll stick a tenner on us going down and the Mackems qualifying for Yewrope to help soften the blow. Might as well make some money out of this situation. <ok>

If we sign no-one then I think it's pretty clear what's going on. They aren't backing Pardew because they don't trust him anymore, we'll start the season badly, but they know Pardew will take most of the abuse, they'll kick him out and probably twist the knife a little saying he should have done better with the squad he had, and Joe Kleenex will be in charge from then on.

Pardew is now talking about Gouffran looking good for a striking role next season. Probably shows that he is losing hope in our 'attempts' to sign the strikers we need.

He also mentioned that he is hoping to go with two strikers for most games next season. If that is the case then we really need two new strikers, not just the one. Guess he's thinking Cisse, Shola, Gouffran & one new signing is the best he can hope for though. Sounds woeful.
