This entirely. Get back to work and stop being a moany little so and so. I'm not bothered what his objections were, they're baseless. I think we can safely assume it was religious though based on comments from the PFA.

Will have to agree to disagree as morals and ethics should play a part in everyones lives. The contract Cisse signed was signed before NUFC signed any contract with Wonga.

It may be that he has been hypocritical or it may be that he has not the fact is most people commenting do not know as we do not have all the facts and it is that aspect which I feel has been unfair on Cisse i.e lots of people condemning him for his stance without knowing the full story.

He doesn't mind picking up the big bucks from the club who lets face it is run by people with some questionable morals and ethics. He doesn't mind playing under the banner of the Barclays PL and having that plastered across the shirts etc. I'm sure he'd be quite happy to play in the CL sponsored by non other than Gazprom. These companies hardly extol moral and ethical virtues do they? I'm afraid it is a little too late to start getting moral and ethical now for these footballers! All far too convienient and I'm not buying any of it.

It's a pity there weren't a lot more folks with high principles who stuck by them but I don't see Cisse in this category... as many have pointed out Virgin lend money and in the case of money lending and Islam it's about any profit not about the percentage. Looks like he was either angling for an excuse to leave or for more wonga for himself.... which I'm betting he got. At least I would bet, were it not against my beliefs (tight fisted and pessimistic).

Morals and ethics should indeed play a large part in everyone's life. A very fundamental moral obligation is to honour your commitments. It takes priority over satisfying your personal preferences.

As a Newcastle United fan, i'm sure you've grown a pretty 'thick skin' over the years, it's the only way to travel i'm sure of it.

With the media the way it is these days, and with social and religious tensions running at an all-time high, I find episodes like 'Wonga-gate' highly irritating and completely uncalled for. It sickens me the way the media flatly refused to ask the question of "Why didn't wearing Barclays or Virgin Money on his shirt contravene his beliefs?". The reasons why won't be known but we can all have a good guess, eh?

So as we have a good news thread, thought I'd mention that Gomis has "done a Ben Arfa". If you recall, Ben Arfa kind of just upped sticks and fcked off from L'OM some time back and it wasn't long after that he turned up on Tyneside. Well, Gomis was due to meet the OL president yesterday, but simply didn't show up. Seems like the big lad is trying to force the hand of OL and get them to drop the price (echoes of Ben Arfa), but whether that's to join the Toon remains to be seen. Christ knows that we need him, else we're playing the lethal partnership of Shola/Cisse up at the Etihad in a few weeks.....
