It's funny how expectations can shift so quickly - DAMIAO, OSVALDO, BANEGA..........oh, it's Kyle Naughton.....

 

I'll bite.

We were all fairly agreed that we needed a signing to prevent Danny Fox getting on the pitch, whilst not halting the progression of Clyne and Shaw, Naughton is as good as we could hope for and would push Clyne. I'm happy if it comes off.

 

Oh I don't disagree with that at all D36 - in fact I couldn't agree more. I was just thinking conceptually about the level of player we'd been talking about.

why? how does that affect his possible transfer?

 

In the sense that Wanyama was withdrawn from the Celtic squad when his transfer was imminent, he may have a point. Considering his name's only just come up though I'm not sure any of us thought it was imminent.

Playing for Spurs suggests he is at least in their first team plans so it's by no means certain they would want to sell him or indeed that he would want to leave.

 

Kyle Naughton is good. Solid player at right and left back.

 

It's the sort of transfer that Spurs likely wouldn't rush to make. They can wait until later in the summer, when they can be assured that they won't need him, or until they need the money for another deal.

 

Where is that coming from, or are you basing it on the fact that other destination clubs seem to be drying up?

 

That was us a little while ago. And remember we got a few players who are still with us for less than that. Money is sometimes only a guide to value.

 

Well he's like Wanyama in that we're 90% sure he'll be going somewhere. We know Poch would like to get him, and we know some Roma fellas are in England to discuss a sale with someone. Obviously that leaves a lot of ifs and buts, but it demonstrates that it's probably not off the table.

 

Personally I think Naughton would be a cracking signing. While he's short of any star power, he is the perfect guy in terms of his ability to step in and fill any defensive role adequately when called upon. Plus he's still reasonably young, so after a solid 2 years or so we could potentially make our money back.

 

Let's hope other teams do not take advantage of Nicola's incapacity Can imagine agents organising meetings on the 10th floor and putting the lift out of action. Nicola would have to swing through the window from a helicopter.

 

Please can I make this clear - I'm not in any way upset by the prospect of signing Naughton!
