The difference this game is that it's our reserve team vs mostly Sunderland's first team. You can tell it's their first game of the preseason but at the same time they have a tad more quality. I think if any 2 of Bale, Sandro, Dembele, Holtby, Chadli, Paulinho, Kaboul, Lloris, Ekotto or Vertonghen had played all game we'd be well on top. Carroll and Townsend now on too.
Good to see Zeki - Been really impressed with what I've seen of Dempsey though the slower tempo(pitch) probably helps him there
Is Walker in a trance, or something? ****ing awful performance. We're getting murdered at the moment..
Incredible save from Friedel. Try and find it on youtube if you can later. Friedel save from Wickham header. Someone needs to sort Townsend's head out. Thought he may have improved over the summer but once again he beats 4 players running at goal, 3 spurs players open to his left with tap ins and he tried to go himself, runs into the defenders and loses the ball.
When I first watched Spurs in the sixties, one transfer a season was the norm. I seem to remember that the 1971 and 1973 squad photos have 16 players and 14 were the same.
Here we have the "special relationship" in action...Looks like Real may have not so much shot themselves in the foot, but blown the ****er right off, if there's any truth to this!... http://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/2892...t-real-madrids-dirty-tricks-bale?ICID=HP_HN_1
A pitch like that tends to make the game more equal as it's difficult to play decent football on it. Fryers did well with what he had to do and Rose looked very confident. Brad was up for it and looked sharp and Ade looked interested. Only saw the second half but one half of looking at DiCanio is enough thanks.
We had a good spell in the second and Mannone pulled off a couple of good saves, from Defoe and Ade. We were sloppy at crucial moments though. Overall obviously we all want to win every game but given the team we sent out (against a Sunderland side containing far more 1st XI players than ours) I think we can take heart from the fact that we DID have some good moments with nice, slick play. Ade looked quite sharp, Defoe was his normal self, Townsend has a great run in his cameo and even Dempsey linked play quite well. Disappointing to lose but at the end of the day we'll move on. Verts might not be as bad as it looked as well, one would hope.
You know, you came on our board giving it the reserve excuse, then off you went. We were playing two cm at full back, a rm at cm, our star striker is still injured and there was a host of new players needing time to gel. Plus we had development squad players playing a part too. We were playing our first team? No way mate, we didn't even have many options as we're still paper thin. But think what you want fella.
