Morning Peeps, A second half hattrick from Luke Varney saw Leeds comfortably beat Stevenage Borough, but we left it to the second half to register a goal. You will recall we went 3 or 4 months without a first half goal in the league in 2013, I just hope this is not an omen. Are we happy to have won 3-0? By all accounts our first half performance was not good... Sam Byram's hip injury looks certain to rule him out of the beginning of the season. I know a lot of you will be thinking that is a good thing, but surely, even if a player is injured, why wouldn't a club just sign him anyway. We did exactly that with Dominic Matteo. He was injured, failed his medical, but we signed him anyway. As long as its not a career threatening injury, why wouldn't they??? McDermott says his players are not working hard enough without the ball. McDermott, who wants his players to play the ball to feet, says he will stick with this philosophy but he is challenging his players to work harder without the ball and get in the faces of the opposition. Thoughts?
Morning all-he's spot on. If you cant have possession of the ball, then you must stop the oppo from playing. Lazyness without the ball can undo any good work you may do while you have it. The starting line up looked weak against Stevenage, I suppose thats the only thing I would say about the poor 1st half. Had to be Varney-my missus loves telling me how good he is because she knows I think he is toilet, and she winds me up! So last night I didnt hear the end of "hat trick hero" Varney! On Byram-I'm slightly worried about how long its taking him to heal up. but if a club wanted him bad enough, they might take a risk on him injured (provided their club docs verify the injury wouldnt rule him out long term)
Morning all. Thoroughly enjoyed last night, although the first half was a bit dire. On injuries, I can see Diouf being the missing link in the team, playing at the head of the diamond, & McCormack being pushed up front with Varney or Poleon, or Hunt/Smith. I know it was only a L1 side in their cup final, but at needs is for someone to find the key to unlock tight defences. Me thinks that Diouf might just be that key. Brown was in fine form last night. The singing suggests that the crowd are starting to take to him. So all good stuff in my book.
Morning all. Yes you might get someone to buy Byram while still injured but not very likely. Would imagine being injured would seriously weaken our bargaining position. I also think we're overvaluing the interest in him. Ok he's a good prospect but the rest of the rubbish around him makes him look even better than he is. That starting line up last night looked poor. Worrying with new season around the corner and little or no improvement. Ah well, it's back to the swimming pool for me
Alloy refurbishment anyone? http://www.groupon.co.uk/deals/shef...campaign=sheffield-auto-body-repairs-24412196
Morning all. I didn't get to see or listen to the game so can't really judge other than what other people are saying. On the plus side, it's only pre-season, the 2nd half yesterday will no doubt have lifted a few heads again. Next up is Nurnberg at Elland Road in the first and last pre-season game at Elland Road. McDermott seems to be playing it the right way in trying to get the most out of what he has and getting them motivated. The problem is probably in trying to teach old dogs new tricks, it's not impossible but it takes a bit longer. Still holding out hope that we can ship one or two out and bring in the creativity we're lacking. If we end up missing the players we are at the moment during the season it's not looking great in terms of strength in depth. It would be nice to at least get one of the lesser performers out and some fresh blood in but I reckon the 'ins and outs' from here on in are likely to be loans both ways.
Is haigh setting himself up for a massive fall, or is there some investment cash coming in soon. He's only telling anyone who'll listen that the plan is for promotion by the end of next season. Wow that takes cash mate and up to now we've not seen any except the cash for Murphy. The squad we have isn't good enough and lacks pace and creativity. Should sell Varney now as the price may have gone up after last night. So either we believe GFH and all will be well, or we think they are shafting us and know they'll be gone before the end of next season
Well Haigh has just said that he is targeting the prem within 2 years time, he thinks that is very realistic which it is
I just think that the change in style will help so many of our players; White and Varney being 2. The first half may not have been too clever last night, but when the game settled down, White showed a lot more of what he can do. He can improve and certainly will have to given the competition for places now. But it was a big step in the right direction.
Afternoon all, Winging my way to Southampton to jump on my Icelandic cruise, but couldn't resist a post. First point - Byram is not injured! He's just been late to start training because of his hip injury & is only at the running stage of recuperation. Basically, he need a pre-season, but isn't fit enough to join in yet! Next - think I may have foung that commanding CB we were looking for. Vinnie mk 2? ... http://footyjokes.lockerdome.com/articles/108624480 See y'all soon!
