''QPR only want committed players and “the right sort” involved with their team this season. Chairman Tony Fernandes, manager Harry Redknapp and CEO Philip Beard have beaten that PR line to death this summer and Beard was at it again this weekend with an interview on the PFA site. Beard said: "Whoever comes in has to be the right person and character for the season ahead as it is going to be a really tough year in the Championship. ‪We've learned you've got to want to play for the club for 90 minutes of every game and willing to fight for your place. That's what we've got to try and do, get players who want to wear the shirt with pride. "QPR is a club where a lot of people come and talk to us about a lot of players," he added. There's so many names being thrown around so whoever does come in has to enjoy playing on the new Loftus Road pitch, but also going to grounds on a cold, wet and windy night in midweek.'' This message from the hierarchy was purported by the board and TF in particular since the day we were relegated following the Reading game. Yet here we are ten days before the season kicks off, and we still haven't imo, signed the 'right kind of players.' Dunne, Simpson and Karl Henry. All unwanted by the clubs that have let us sign them. Here lies the crux of the problem. We have for the past two seasons only signed players that were unwanted. SWP - Unwanted at City. Barton - Unwanted at Newcastle. Traore - Unwanted at Arsenal. Park - Unwanted at ManU. Ferdinand - Unwanted at Sunderland. Bosingwa - Unwanted at Chelsea. Cesar - Unwanted at Milan. Granero - Unwanted at Real Madrid. Remy - Unwanted at Marseille. M'Bia - Unwanted at Marseille. Zamora - Unwanted at Fulham. Johnson - Unwanted at Fulham. Gabbidon - Unwanted at West Ham. Onuoha - Unwanted by City Jenas - Unwanted by Spurs And so it goes on. ( I may have left a few out. ) We have a squad of players that think they're too good for us. They have only come here because the wages are better than anywhere else and we're based in London. It matters not to them if they perform or not, they'll turn up and do a job but hopefully someone will carry the baton. If not, then so be it. I'll still get paid, and I don't care. It's only QPR they're not my club, if they don't like me they can move me on. It'll cost them though. Even a ****e footballer can command a lottery win. Personally, I don't give a monkeys for the Prem or getting back there. I'll still buy my ST and go whether it's the Prem or League two. What I do care about though is that if I invest my time in going that the players and management can at least do that as a minimum too. I would rather see a long term plan carried on in the QPR tradition than a short term fix that will see us back to square one next season. Good honest talented endeavour, played out in the tradition of our unique club is what I want to see. Regardless of what division that maybe. What a bloody shame that Brixton and Hammersmith Hoopton had to witness that ****e in their final season as an 'Rs fan' after so many years of supporting our beloved club through it's ups and downs. Everyone who stepped onto our pitch last season should be ashamed. Not one single player gave a great account of themselves, we should of got rid of the lot of them and rebuilt from scratch. Otherwise we will find ourselves running around in circles and chasing our tails, whatever the out come of this season and for the foreseeable future.
Fair enough Nines AND although I dont totally agree with all of it; I can certainly undertand your feelings. you guys that still invest in the club have been sorely cheated out of what should have been our finest time for 15 years. My only saving grace is that, although ispend a lot of money staying up to watch, merchandise etc....I've not been treated like you have by the players. Totaly agree, everyone who plays for us should WANT to play for us. i'll admit that when we went up; I was all for "selling our Souls" and getting (supposedly) better players in. It didnt work and we got F-d over by a bunch if useless to**ers. The mangement have to take a large slice of the blame for this too. Tony needs to just keep shut and run the club. Dont want to see him on Twatter or anything like that. Do his job quietly and professionally!
Good Post 9'sey..... I know I might be repeating myself but the finest sides the club ever had....mid 70's, cup final side and beyond through to early 90's all evolved over a number of years, to use a DTism the club/team grew into it self and due to the way football was at that time it could happen. Unfortunately these days clubs/teams are not allowed to develope, especially a "small" club like ours trying to compete with the Mancs, Chelsea, Arsenal etc who have had a 15 year start on us in terms of funding/sky TV/Champions League etc.....It is now the era of instant here and now, no time to test the water so to speak and that is why we find ourselves where we are now. Harold (I'm still not convinced by him) is only looking short term as was Hughes before him and in a way Warnock before Hughes, they were trying to survive the Premier League on a year by year basis rather than looking at how to survive over a 3, 4 or 5year period and so on. In a way relegation was a good thing and the 3 that went up last year will be in a similar position to us, they are making some signings in the hope of survival and until there is some sort of levelling of the playing field, which will never happen, then this 1 year plan will continue. We are not the first and will not be the last.....
Good post mate but I would like to add just a brief thought. The problem with QPR is that we are in the Championship and in 99.9% of cases, I can't help but think we and every other club will only attract a player not loved by another club. The chances of striking gold with a junior coming thru is rare and trying to pull one from somewhere else is even rarer. So the game of mix & match will continue BUT I do get your point. Just a correction on Barton ......... not wanted by Newcastle or any other club on this planet, although he may get a start in Uranus ......... heard there looking for assholes.
Good post 999s re..... growing slowly with players who want to play for us. quick fixes aren't and have never been the way. My only criticism, about us only buying players not wanted at other clubs...that is unfair...players wanted by there clubs, aren't for sale (few exception ...bidding war over Bale obviously). If the player is up for sale he is surplus to requirement for what ever reason. It is the managers job to pick out the good ones from the bad eggs (sounds like Charlie and the Chocolate factory). . It is a mangers job to take all these little parts and make something greater than the whole. I have also felt, having a great manager (that is someone who can deal with the job in hand)...is worth a lot more than having a superstar (Holloway at C Palace last season...for promotion.....SAF for winning the league....different jobs, need different managers.................I do not believe SAF could get a team out the Championship, nor Holloway win the league...still two great managers). So Harry can buy who he likes.....but I worry about HIS ability, not the players he buys. But at least Harry is now acting as though he sees it as a challenge...and not something that is happening around him, that he is no part of
Great post 999 MBia and Remy weren't unwanted as such that was just business The penny takes time to drop with me and who knows what will happen ... It's another page TF also feels let down and so we are currently stuck in with a mindset that its needs these hard sort if players TF knows little about football that is easy to see and we know we can't buy a team and so far he has sacked 2 managers I feel the problem is now that a lot of faith has been given to a legend or as I call him a dinosaur New football is here now and I think its not all about grit and brawn and the right sort ... It's about playing football the new way ... Look at Watford We have to get promotion Harold if it looks like failing I am sure will be off or if a nice job comes up Where does that leave us then Should we worry anyway is where I am today ... When we kick off then I have to be behind whatever QPR team steps onto the pitch ... Being QPR isn't boring Beat SW in ten days then we will think we have won the league lose and its all going to be Hughes fault I was right about fickle at least that's true ... I am myself
What is Unique about our club HappyDays is that we are QPR, we are the Superhoops, we are the RRRs. We are unique....no one has had a history like ours, we are close band of fellow travellers, united in a cause. Unless you are in our "club" you would not understand. However that is true of all the other clubs too (and respect to them too), and if you need to ask that question "why is your club unique"...you do not get it....and Fulham is a poorer place for having you as a supporter
Good comments. I would add that chief among our problems is 'football people'. TF has been mugged by 3 managers in a row, and I can't find it in myself to blame him. Who else is he meant to trust with their alleged insider knowledge? We are now building a team to fight its way out of this division. It probably won't work, and I want to see a team play its way to the top and stick together once we go up. I'd be happy (ish) to wait 3 seasons for this to happen. But no, TF has been told that we can get out immediately, by replacing quality players who have been poorly managed by alleged self motivated 'triers'. No one can tell me that Green is better than Cesar, Dunne better than Samba, Simpson is better than Bosingwa, Hooper is better than Remy, Henry is better than (god forbid) barton, anyone we get will be better than Taarabt. Sure the ones we have/had haven't delivered, have had crap attitudes etc etc and that is their responsibility, but it is the manager/coach's accountability and that is where our chief failure lies.
i am pretty sure remy was wanted by his club and others. i get your point 1 out of 15 does not look good. but if you look at the players we have bought in this window. you could say this again. but these players have been bought in because the can do the job for what we need for this season. plus if we are to get hooper in he is wanted by a few clubs and i am pretty sure celtic dont want to get rid of him.
What you say makes no sense, as on the one hand you say you are unique, and then on the other, you say you are just like every other club. Where I was coming from was to ask what made QPR unique compared to other clubs. The reasons you gave, Beth, are not unique, so I ask again, what is unique about QPR as a club?
SB I know we've disagreed over my suggestion that TF needs a 'Football person' as a buffer between himself and the manager - a director of football if you like - do that he gets a second opinion on the managers requests for players. I don't think beard is the right person. Ideal for driving a new stadium or training facility but I'm not convinced that he isn't being continually hoodwinked by the various strategies devised ie. let's go for big name experience and now let's go for hard working grafters He needs a cynic in the mix. He could do a lot worse than talk to us, we're the most cynical bunch going!
I'll go for that model, but only with the right manager, who probably have to be European for it to work. British managers seem to get all hurt and bruised if it is suggested that the job is too big for a single man. You are right, Beard should be left to run the business, technical director to oversee the footballing side including transfer policy, and a bright young coach with a defined approach to the game, rather than trying to recruit 'good sorts'.
I'm sure Beth will make comment but in the meantime, QPR are unique because ............ * We are the only club to be situated at Loftus Road. * We are the only club to have Harry Redknapp as our current manager. * We are the only club to be named, Queens Park Rangers. * We are the only club ............................................................ I could go on for hours but unless you are an RRR'rs fan, it is probably irrelevant to you. As Beth has already stated, our history and everything about us is unique to our club & team.
Happy Days is right, QPR is only unique to QPR supporters, just as Fulham would only be unique to Fulham supporters. Thing is Mr Days, this is our thing not yours, so as Belfast so eloquently put it, piss off.
