Update from Sports Direct.com Wigan Athletic manager Owen Coyle is ready to pull the plug on a move for Albert Adomah - after Bristol City increased their valuation. Ghanaian winger Adomah has been a Latics target for weeks but Coyle is fed up with the change of price tag on the flier. Coyle's last offer of £800,000 plus extras reached the 'magic' mark of £1 million that the relegated Robins wanted for their wantaway wide man. Now Bristol City want the money up front and guaranteed for Adomah and that demand has put off Coyle who has other targets.
The obvious concern is that it will spectacularly backfire like it did with Nicky Maynard and our board are not renowned for sensible decision making.

Wigan were never going to play hard ball. Whelan will absolutely not spend more than he has to, and I reckon he's more than happy to wait until January to make his move again, either for the same price or for free, unless Adomah gets snapped up by someone else in that time. We need to learn from our mistakes, and to offer Adomah a new deal right now. If Wigan are definitely out of the running then there is no other interest, and we need to lock Adomah down. I'd be more than happy for us to offer him an extension on his deal, and to offer a release clause of £1M if we don't get promoted this season.
How does him staying affect our FFP requirements? Are we going to fall into the same trap as we did with Nicky? All valid concerns methinks.
Several interesting things here:- 1). the report is from a company owned by Whelan's biggest competitor (stiring it..?) 2). the words say that they had met our valuation by offering £800k plus "extras". Note, THEY decided that they had met our valuation by these means but I seriously doubt the board said yes, fine, give us some extras. I strongly suspect we said £1m cash and they thought they would be ok with a cheapskate offer. Dave Whelan is still smarting over Dave Cotterill no doubt. Anyway, if Coyle thinks that his threat to withdraw will make us cave in, he should ask Dave Whelan about who has got the bigger wallet out of him and SL because I am damn sure that SL will tell Wigan to go **** themselves out of principle if he thinks they are trying to **** us over and I would stand shoulder to shoulder with him on this..
It is just more poor journalism from SDNews.com The price on Albert has never been less than £1M it is Wigan who keep trying to get him for less in fact the reported bids for Albert have gone down first reported bid from Wigan was £850,000 plus add ons this latest bid which Owen Coyle said met the asking price was £800,000 plus add ons obviously maths was not his strong point in school. the club might do better waiting until January and tell Mr Coyle where to go(back to Scotland with his mate DM) he could well end up there as his performance in management have not exactly been stellar especially when you consider the St Johnstone fans rated DM much higher than OC. Although to be fair he did do a fair job in getting Burnley to the Premiership but he left them struggling halfway through their first season in the top flight that saw them relegated and took over at Bolton who he managed to get relegated the following year. Similar to DM here he arrived and saved the club from relegation but by the time January came round the next season we were virtually doomed. I wonder if Mr Coyle will still be Wigan's manager in Febuary next year?
If they don't, then I hope his head is right for the new season after all the speculation and rumours, because if it's not then it's a double blow for us
The more quality we can keep in our team the better and Albert is class for this level, lets hope he features in Sod's plans...
