It appears that Sean is getting frustrated by the board's apparent lack of action in the Albert transfer stakes. We all know that a lot of previous inaction on behalf of the top management at Bristol City has led us down a path that has not been the one that most of us would have chosen. Changes in the structure of the board don't seem to have fixed the basic problem which in a lot of people's eyes is that the right hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing. The positivity that the club so desperately needs cannot come when things appear to be close to reverting to the same old muddled ways. Like a lot of other people I have serious concerns that the situation is not improving and all the rhetoric and fine words do very little to reassure me that things will turn out fine, even in the end. Yes I am a moaning old fart but all I want is for my team to finally get something right and I don't think that is too much to ask for, how about you?
Don't think the board are letting SoD down more like holding out to get him more funds! They can't win with some. Sell Albert for the first bidder, they have let SoD down with less funds Wait till a sum that they feel is worth selling they are letting SoD down Replace SoD with some fans and you get my drift
It was SOD asking the board to get moving, not me. But your point is valid ROD but I wasn't directing my concerns at our manager.
I really think the board are doing the right thing by letting it be known there is no firesale of players at Ashton Gate otherwise the management would be swamped with stupid bids for players like Hearts were once they put their entire first team squad up for sale there were chairmen and managers of other clubs phoning in bids of £5K for some players and seemingly expecting Hearts to be grateful. The board stuck to it's principles when negotiating the Flint purchase and refused to be shafted as we had been in the past fair play to em for doing the same now, they have openly said they will listen to offers for players that are close to the values that the players are worth but they are not in the business of selling of the best players for peanuts anymore we have not exactly been shining examples of how to make dealings in the transfer market in the past and it looks like the lessons have at last begun to sink in.
I really hope that is true hawk because our previous record is not exactly an ad for how it should be done. Letting Albert go for less than his true value should never be an option and let's hope our board are getting it right.
Remember guys, ALL the power is with the player now. Contract up at end of year (big signing bonus as a freebie transfer awaits), a transfer now to a club that he agrees to or the club make him a silly offer to sign a new contract. Whatever the outcome, the ball is in Albert's court. The Board have to accept that option 3 is unlikely and so need to hold out for as much as they can but also weigh this up against the negative effect of the bad apple plus the fact that they still have to pay him. All in all, it's a tricky situation and we should have some faith that JL is doing wghat he can to protects Dad's money!
Remember alberts only worth as much as the highest bid so far only wigans bidding and seems no one else is joining in, Keeping him aint an option as he does not want to be here and dont think he would fit into SOD plans as it stands if he is still here come january we would be lucky to get 500k for him
Don't think this is aimed at the board at all - clearly SoD wants it sorted but IMHO, it is quite clearly a (not very) veiled threat to Wigan to say put up or shut up. They have tabled a bid which is not what we want so I have no problem whatsoever with the board telling Dave Whelan to sling his hook. Albert obviously would like to go and I would wish him well but they either pay what he is worth or **** off. No if's, no buts...
We've got to the end of August to sell him, there is only so many players with Alberts quality in the Championship, with enough games he is a cert to score 10 plus at that level, not bad for a winger, we'll get our cash, don't rush, tell Wigan to put up or **** off...
Albert is still a City player and is under contract to us until next Summer unless he is sold for the money which we believe he is worth. Therefore whether he, Wigan or whoever dont like it then tough ****. If we dont get what we want for him then I expect him to get a place in the starting 11 next Saturday week against Bradford.
We'll sell, and probably for less than what was asked because he only has a year on his contract. We play a risky game by waiting. Either way, in my mind SOD needs to be given time to manage this side. I don't care if we're mid-table by Christmas, SOD has proven credentials, and any failure of the team is a failure of the board.
