Both have scored goals in the Premier League though which does add some value to them even if they are not as glamourously alluring as buying someone from Juve or Barca .... neither of whom have played in the EPL before .....
I think the Quag and torvillanddean situ shows us we aren't there yet. Keep building as we are and some day soon those sort of players will jump at the chance to join the mighty yellows. Bah!
Sounds like he's waiting until he's a free agent then, loads of faffing around for nothing though if that's the case and leading fans of various clubs up the garden path. I'm starting to dislike him! Edit: Although not entirely his fault, Celtic were being unreasonable on the price.
Although it's all speculation, I don't think it's him that's the problem... I think he genuinely wanted to leave and I believe his agent (or maybe he) said that we are his preferred choice (suggestion is that he has rejected QPR's offer, which sounds like a player who prioritises what's good for his career rather than his bank balance). The problem seems to be that our and Celtic's valuations are miles apart, not helped by QPR waving their cash willies around. EDIT - sorry just seen your edit!
If Hooper plays in the CL then he will be cup-tied for that competition which really has no effect on his possible transfer to us/QPR/Hull. Makes sense for him to keep everyone happy by making himself available and keeping his match fitness up. I don't see it as him being awkward, just pragmatic. If you're going to stay at Celtic probably best not to throw your toys out of the pram and keep the club and fans on-side and if you're going to leave it is an opportunity to shine and make sure you leave on good terms. If he were a Norwich player i would expect him to give 100% for the club until he left us and I am struggling to understand why some people on here feel that he is being sly or disrespectful by honouring his contract until he makes a move. I'd much rather have that sort of player join the club than one who would sulk and be disruptive to engineer a move as you can bet your life that if we signed them one day the same would happen at Colney.
This Hooper deal have dragged on for way too long, one way or another I can't wait until it's over. But I do hope we have other targets lined up, because starting a season with only 2 strikers will even get me worried. But there's still plenty of time, so I'm sure we will.
You can't really blame those players. Used to challenging titles for their current clubs to than move to a team who's primary target is avoiding relegation and probably taking a wage cut. It's a difficult one for the players who have snubbed us so far, especially because we don't have European football.
lambert eh? i like him - i actually prefer him to holt slightly - but i don't want him. i'd try and move away from a defined target man if possible. i'm not dead against having one because its good to have a few different styles at our disposal but we have carlton morris in the youth team who i think could be a real gem given a year or so. i do like jelavic though - i'd definitely have him. one poor year doesn't make him a bad player. he lacked a bit of confidence but he's still a real handful.
I would like us to get hooper but enough is enough celtic needs to sort it now, it's gone on too long now, still hope we sign him thou.
celtic are perfectly within their rights to ask as much as they want for the player - its down to us, if we want to pay what they ask! the player has been left in limbo by his club - they are going to end up with an unhappy player next season and then get nothing for him in 12 months time (or a token fee in january). norwich it seems are perfectly happy to wait until there is a point where celtic give up, be it tomorrow or the final day of the window. risky because i get the feeling they won't give in to us!
Hooper? Whos that? Is he like some mythical creature like medusa, does he actually exist? Finding a dead sea scroll that is signed by Jesus himself is a more likely find than a contract signed by Hooper for NCFC.
and kemp, i know he's not your, shall we say, favourite topic, but i'm told there has been some developments today in the saga and its positive from our point of view, so maybe, just maybe, we're getting closer to the end of probably the most boring transfer sagas of all time.
Doubt it - it's probably transpired that the Nukes are going to buy him rendering Shola surplus and we, at long last, will finally see Shola in Asda. Happy Days !!
when i say positive, i should explain, i'm told we are in talks again with celtic - we've not agreed anything, obviously!!
