Not grandeur but to achieve with Watford FC what the Pozzo's have already achieved with their other two clubs. A club competing in the top league whilst being financially sustainable and without debt. This concept may be hard to understand by supporters of clubs like Leicester that thought that spending borrowed cash (bit like Gordon Brown) would work.

We are in the same league but richer due to the Wembley money and 50M worth of signed talent.

... clubs 'like Leicester' in your analogy would of course include, Man City, Man United, Liverpool, Newcastle, Chelsea, Tottenham - in fact all but perhaps two or three clubs currently in the Prem ... and you are being rather naiive ... the Pozzos aren't acquiring the players Watford are getting for magic beans ... the debt is just sitting above somewhere ...

Personally I haven't got a problem with what Watford are doing - it is a loophole so using it is fair enough - I do however think the the FA / Premier league need to close it if, and only if, they are serious about the full principles of FFP being applied ... because what Watford are doing certainly circumvents it as it stands ... in simplistic terms you are borrowing beyond your 'means' by virtue of a 'special relationship' ...

One thing that FIFA could do is to introduce a concept similar to that used in French Horse racing - 'coupling' - i.e FFP should be applied to all clubs in the 'same ultimate ownership' raher than on an individual basis - so Watford's debt / equity ratio is based on an amalgamation of all clubs owned by the Prozzos and their ability to recruit is then pro-rated on their proportion of that total figure...

Yes we are - and given that just over a year ago any Watford fan would have expected another relegation battle and possibly administration thanks to the previous owner we are very VERY happy to be in the Championship.

We will hope agian for promotion - as Perhaps Leicester fans will - is that a delusion of grandeur or what most fans hope for?

It is not a loophole, the club operates within the rules. No need for any rule change.

Unlike LCFC the premiership clubs you have quoted above have not been in administration leaving local small businesses in dire straights through unpaid bills.

The Pozzo's make a profit at Udinese, just managed to break even at Granada and have invested in players at Watford to eventually reap rewards by selling at the right price, at the right time.

    Pass the tissues Knokky!!!

I was hoping you would enlighten me as I think Watford fans are on the whole very realistic and down to earth - perhaps you could point out what delusions you have noticed

I'm regretting starting this thread looking through these comments - Leicester and Watford never had a rivalry and this could start one like we've got with Hull for no real reason.

TC must be happy - he knows no one gives a **** about Millwall so is stirring the pot here.

At least you didn't start the 'watford are a joke' thread. No wonder we came on your board to put matters straight. Why is it only Leicester fans whinging? - time to move on and look forward to the season. Good luck.

Not a loophole? - OK! - shall we instead call it 'a methodology for acquiring players that your club can't possibly afford nor would be in contention to do so, if not for a very special relationship' ... there now, got rid of any distasteful inference . Rule changes are only necessary if the football authorities feel that certain rules are being 'circumvented' - therefore, over to them.

The Pozzos make a profit at Udineses? - supect you've plucked that from your 'wishful thinking' bucket but I can't be arsed to search for their accounts etc

News to me about you and 'Knokky' - congratulations - if you try to picture Zola's mush at 'the moment' - might just enable you to last a little longer ...

We had one of the best seasons last year, great day out at Wembley, even better closed season with many many great signings and really looking forward to the new season. I don't see the same on your boards, no signings, mutterings about the manager, crap overpaid players, oh dear.

Last year Udinese made a profit of around 100m... that's despite them being a little tinpot club in northern Italy with limited support and limited help from TV money

The authorities aren't going to make changes to the rules so just live with it.

Clubs are slowly looking to foreign partnerships but sadly cannot do what Watford did with loans last year as.... yes what happened the football league clubs having their hissy fit decided to limit their own options and change the rules re International Loans.

More teams that do it the more likely the FA will close the loophole. You cheat at doing it and Reading are trying to follow suit
