The young lad, Alan Duckworth's(!) thoughts, were a commentary, by JA as though he was reporting on an England test.

Isn't there a tradition that batsmen who are 'in' have to watch it when Blowers is commentating..?

A real gift from Clarke that was, these Aussies are just too generous at the moment.

I actually had a lovely nap then woke up for a wicket. Cricket and a warm day adds up to a perfect snooze.

Just looked up the surname Root because I've never heard it before. Turns out that it is one of the oldest recorded names in Britain and refers to a musician or harpist. Bet you feel better for knowing that.

Went out for lunch today with a long standing French friend. I apologised for glancing at my phone he asked me to explain cricket to him. I declined, as we only had 3 hours (lunch in France is a very civilised business) but I'm wondering whether anyone has come across a good easy guide?

Whenever a foreigner asks me, especially an American or Canadian, I usually give them the most confusing, contradictory and mind-boggling explanation as possible which is almost entirely lies and I make it up on the spot every time. I usually meld Cricket and Boules with terminology from Football, Rugby, Badminton, Hockey etc., and frequently claim that the game was largely played on horseback until after WWI. Only about 60-70% have ever caught on that I was having them on.

And back on the current Cricket, I think that was out but don't know how you can possibly overturn that with nothing on hotspot. Holding's just got it spot on for me, 'Absolutely nothing wrong with the system, just down to the people using the system', when talking about DRS, the quality of third umpiring in particular has been flat-out rubbish to this point.

According to Aggers, there have been occasions when the ambient temperature has been too hot for Hotspot to work effectively, apparently. Other indicators said the batsman was out. Do you think the 3rd umpire is biased..?

It's not the system that's the issue, it's the inconsistency and idiocy of those implementing it. Awful decision. They're still hopeless though....

No, not biased, just inept. Problem was that the only other indicator for me was the noise, I've seen it about 10 times now and struggling to see any deflection. Hotspot is known to throw up the odd anomaly from time to time but in that scenario you just have to discount it from the equation. If it was given out on the field then there's not enough evidence to say it was not out, and likewise if it's given not out there's not enough evidence to overturn it and give the wicket. That is how DRS is supposed to work but that was not used correctly there. My big problem besides the fact that the third umpires are making poor calls is that they are displaying no consistency and taking a scattergun approach to applying the laws of the game.

I'm not asking if the system is flawed or anything. I'm asking about the competence and bias of those using the technology, in your opinion. I'm all for correct decision making and if that means implementing technology then so be it. But it has to be used correctly.
