I know it was a pre season friendly and the result doesn't matter but god we were poor. Bear in mind that Walsall sold their best players like Brandy and Grigg over the summer and yet they ran the game from start to finish. Though their no3 at left back was quality. Leeds showed no guile or ability whilst Walsall played crisp one touch football, even with their second team. Doesn't augur well for the new season... headless chickens comes to mind!
Welcome to the mad house, Andy. How did you get to hear about us? Was it the Samaritans that gave you our link? Personally, I'm not too fussed about the result. Pre-season is all about putting a fit team together for the start of the season. Happens to a lot of teams - look at Harrogate Town cuffing Blackburn 3-0 today! There are positives to be taken out of this, even if it's for the manager & the board to realise that some serious action is required. Then again, we've been in exactly the same situation for the last 2 transfer windows, and Warnock (the elder) went from Messiah to the Devil because of the impact our 'transfer budget/strategy' had on the quality of the players he was able to pull together. I hope we all learn from this & don't get on to BM's back, or the team's back for that matter. Looks like some fans had a go today that prompted Warnock (the younger) to face off to them. Sadly, I've never seen or heard of this happen with Leeds before.
From my reading of the YEP match report, Leeds should have won 5-2. http://www.yorkshireeveningpost.co....tch-report-walsall-1-leeds-united-0-1-5876655
Don't remember them doing a nose to nose with a fan. Seen today's picture? https://twitter.com/JamesLUFC/status/358615572969320448/photo/1
Why are the fans turning on the team already =\ such a panic mentality bred into this club at the moment it's pathetic. Unrest is at an all time high. ken bates, this is your legacy, a set of insecure fans who don't know what's going on and think part of what makes their club great may have died.
Totally agree. Team will need a few convincing performances very early this season or fans may prove more of a hinderance than a help
Because a few probably believed that the end of Bates and GFH splashing out a million on a player had solved our problems and it hasn't as was evident on yesterdays performance (from what I have heard and read). One player doesn't make a team, it is obvious BMD wants to bring in more and GFH looks to have blown their budget on the one player, either that or they are looking for the next £1m investment into the club
Emphasis on that! Meanwhile a more ambitious team demolished the newly promoted champions in their own backyard in the opening 30 mins! Oh Stevieeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
We were poor Marko. With two weeks to go to the start of the season, if this is how the team is going to play(friendly or no friendly) we will struggle. I'm not being negative, just being honest and realistic. That's just my opinion though, I'm sure plenty will disagree.
Joking aside - Last season we appointed Warnock - Many (myself a little I must admit) wondered if this was a turning point for Bates, surely Warnock would not join unless he was given promises and funds to do a decent job? We signed Pearce for a fee and it looked promising, soon the wheels came off when the marquee signings never arrived. I said at the time we are signing a load of players of similar average ability and we are wasting wages on players like Gray. GFH took over and many (myself again included) thought okay let us see what happens in January - We swapped the leading scorer for an injured player who was going to be no good to us for the remainder of the season, we also took Habibou on loan with a view to a contract and I said then I bet he plays no more than one game for us and he didn't. I lost all faith in both Warnock and GFH When we appointed BCD I thought it was a good appointment but pointless without backing him. I wondered if I was wrong about GFH when we splashed £1m for Murphy and I noticed a few posts commenting about how great GFH were and that they do have funds but lack of activity since proves that the sale of Byram is required to fund any further purchases. This time last season there was a debate - stronger team than the previous season or weaker, I said weaker and it proved to be not much in it. Many felt we would be harder to beat, we were not and we conceded goals for fun still. Are we stronger now than this time last season - VERY slightly stronger IF Murphy proves half his worth. We have lost Becchio and gained Hunt, I really can't get excited about Smith and part of me wants him to fail so that Poleon gets more of a chance. We are NOT going to finish in the top 8 as things currently stand IMHO
IMO the fans are entitled to say what they want, regardless if it's wrong or right. They paid their money. 1400 turned up to watch this. The players should concentrate on their own performances and not get involved with the supporters.
To be fair this isn't McDermott's team yet - he said he wanted 6 or 7 signings. Whether he gets them or not is another debate entirely, but the transfer window is still open for another 6 weeks, so we can only hope. Still, at least he'll get us playing better football at any rate.
