Premier League clubs are weighing up moves for Sunderland midfielder Craig Gardner, Sky Sports understands. Sunderland boss Paolo Di Canio has been busy in the transfer market this summer having brought in nine new faces and it means he could be forced to trim his squad on Wearside. The news has alerted Premier League sides to Gardner's possible availability with the 26-year-old a proven performer having racked up over 150 top-flight appearances during his time at Aston Villa, Birmingham and Sunderland. Gardner was one of Sunderland's shining lights last season in a disappointing campaign, impressing after being used as an emergency right-back for a large period of the campaign. Despite being played in a full-back position, the 26-year-old managed to score eight goals in all competitions last season for Sunderland The former England Under 21 international's versatility and experience makes him an attractive proposition for clubs with his suitors now monitoring his situation at the Stadium of Light. I would be inclined to keep him in the squad
I'd be happy for him leave. Would miss him cos he always gave his all and his pens were class. But gave away countless penalties himself. If we had conceded a penalty odds are he was at fault Wish him luck if he goes. Won't be surprised to see him at wba, closer to home
I would prefer to keep gardner and colback , I think the can still do a good job for us and both will improve under pdc
We paid something like 5m for him, he leaves for free in 12 months. I wouldn't give him a new contract so I'd sell him while we can get a few million.
Trim our squad?? Our squad is still thin. We can't sell everyone and hope all the new guys just know how everything works. Need to keep some players, and I like Gards. Can hit a mean FK, and can versatile positions. Keep.
Yeah but I think we will need him this year, if he plays well give him a new contract if not let him go for nowt! Not ideal I know but needs must.
This ^^ got to be careful here, bringing in new faces is great but would like to keep the pl regulars as they can be a great help to the new boys. Although gardener didn't set the world alight he scored some crucial goals last season and his commitment has always been 100% the mags game springs to mind watching from the stands with the supporters! these sort of players are a dying breed. i'd keep him as a squad player and we know he van fill in at rb
Wouldn't be too bothered to see him go. Get a couple of million for him and reinvest. Decent player and a good lad. Just one of those players who is useful but wouldn't be greatly missed.
Best one we have had for many a year mate. Personally I would not like to see Gardner go but would not be too bothered if Vaughan was sold? Gardner has all the right attitudes and commitment we should all want from our players and his flexibility is vital for a team like ours. Fills ion wherever he is asked and is a lad that will be missed if he is sold.
Would like him and Colback to stay as back up options but if we got a tidy offer bearing in mind his contract situation we'd have to sell.
there's no quotes/references from our or other clubs in this skysports 'scoop'. more journo junk i feel. i doubt we'd sell him or Jack given our difficulties getting in one FB for each position, let alone 2. plus he offers good md cover he works hard & scores goals.
