it is Talkshite but they quote a reliable source.

    http://www.talksport.co.uk/sports-n...-second-approach-newcastle-midfielder-201977?

Liverpool have made a second approach for Newcastle midfielder Hatem Ben Arfa, according to French newspaper L'Equipe.
Reds boss Brendan Rodgers has been a long-term admirer of the 26-year-old and is believed to have sounded out Newcastle over a possible move earlier this year.
Liverpool cooled their interest in the Frenchman earlier this summer as they prioritised the signing of Henrikh Mkhitaryan, but the Armenia international's decision to join Borussia Dortmund has left Rodgers needing to find a new playmaker instead.
And the Northern Irishman, who has already added Iago Aspas and Luis Alberto to his attacking options, has now returned with a fresh approach for Ben Arfa.
The Newcastle wideman suffered with injuries last term and managed just 16 Premier League appearances.

I don't want HBA to go anywhere but if he did I would prefer it abroad. It would sicken me if he went to those disgusting Scouse bastards

I'm not sure there is any such thing as a reliable source nowadays to be honest. The number of times players have been misquoted by L'Equipe or a transfer mooted that has later been denied are countless. I think they are the same as everyone else. Its like the BBC, they used to be fairly reliable. If it appeared on BBC Sport you could be fairly sure that something was in the offing. Now like everyone else they just work on rumours and quote "sources" close to the club or player. Talkshite are obviously a step up in the bullshit stakes.

I think given the length of time the Liverpool/HBA rumours have circulated, there is likely to be either a long held interest or an enquiry at some stage or other. It has never managed to come to fruition in the past and I see no reason it would now unless they are ready to be taken to the cleaners again.

I personally think that HBA himself has no intention of going anywhere. I get the feeling he is desperate to get a full season in and show the fans what he can really do.

In terms of rumour, GFN_France have been the most reliable by a country mile. The only time, however, it becomes believable is when Press Association Sport run it.

    £30m sound about right?

If we intend going forward we need to hold onto our key players and HBA is a match winner who we shouldn't be thinking about selling.

total non-starter for anything less than 30. After Liverpool rebuffed our initial Carroll offer, clearly due to it being from Newcastle, we will never let them feel like they got a good deal from us

Why have they not secured him with a new contract, he was quoted as saying he wanted to sign a new one? Surely if HBA signed a new long term deal that would,
A.... Deter other clubs from going for him, and
B..... Make his price huge, therefore putting off the chancers.
All this inaction is getting frustrating, what the blazes is everyone doing at Newcastle ?
Let's see some semblance of a strategy, please!

The worry for me is that because of his injuries and fitness levels, the point will come when the club will decide to cash in when they still can.

I don't want him leaving by any means, but, please, please, give us back the real HBA.

How on earth can these 2 players be compared?

Don't get me wrong I admire both players but Henrikh Mkhitaryan was being sought after as a long term box to box Gerrard replacement. HBA is more like some of the players we've recently bought, such as Coutinho and Aspas. We're after Bernard at the moment, perhaps if that falls through there may be some truth in this, but I still doubt it. Bernard is certainly the man I want to see at Liverpool, but there is a lot of interest from clubs in Europe, so it's not looking too promising we'll get him either! Bernard is similar to the likes of HBA, Coutinho and Aspas (but with more pace than those three and more trickery) so he's not the one to replace Gerrard when he eventually hangs his boots up.

Gerrard's just signed a new 2 year deal and was excellent last season so missing out on Henrikh Mkhitaryan isn't such a big deal - I predict next summer is when we get a Gerrard type midfielder. Unless we get Erikson in this window, but thats doubtful as he looks like he's off to AC Milan.

By the way guys I haven't been over to your board for a while - Hope you're all well and good luck for next season <ok>

Ben Arfa has to stay. He's a massively frustrating player, but that's because everytime he gets the ball I expect him to skin at least 2 players and when he doesn't I'm disappointed. Much better type of frustration that getting angry at Tiote messing up a 5 yard pass or something! Ben Arfa is the only player we have who remotely looks like he's trying to win us a game, therefore we have to do all we can to keep him.

Agree. We probably all expect too much if him, but as you say it's only because he's our brightest hope of watching some entertaining football. Really hope he stays at the club and stays fit/injury- free.
