In a bizarre twist, it would appear that Newcastle United DO now have to Academy, Category One, status.

The only problem being that Newcastle United haven’t told anybody!

Recently we revealed that Joe Joyce, NUFC’s Academy manager, had said back in May that the Auditors were returning later that month to see if the Academy was now up to scratch, he then added that they would find out last month (June) as to whether Newcastle had succeeded in getting the essential top status.

SJP2With not a word from the club well into July, you couldn’t help but think that the Auditors must have given the Academy the thumbs down again.

    However, it appears not.

No proper announcement from the club (perish the thought) but putting 2 and 2 together it does appear we do actually get 4 for once.

Basically, starting in August there is a new one division league for Category One Academies and Newcastle are one of the clubs that appear in the fixtures.

Quite why the club would have neglected to let us know that such an important (positive!) decision had come our way, is anybody’s guess.

I suppose when it takes days to confirm Newcastle United have a new Director of Football after the buffoon has blundered onto SKY TV and started rambling about it himself, anything is possible. If you remember, a good number of fans did start to believe that Joe Kinnear had made the whole thing up when our club said absolutely nothing for 48 hours.

So we are pleased to announce Newcastle United now have Category One Academy status…watch out for this breaking news from the club any month now!

U21 update confirms Category 1 Status

Friday saw the Premier League confirm an amended format for this season's U21 league - and in the process confirm that the Newcastle United's Academy facility is among the elite group, contrary to recent claims.

The will be one national division, the Barclays Under-21 Premier League, comprised of 22 Category 1 Academies.

Having played each other once, either home or away, the top four teams in the table will progress to the semi-final stage and final to determine the overall Barclays Under-21 Premier League winners.

The Academies who finish first and fourth in the League will meet in one semi-final, with the former at home, while the second and third-placed clubs will meet in the other semi-final, with the League runners-up deemed the home team.

This season each team is required to play at least three of their home matches at their nominated home stadium, with training grounds and Academy venues permitted for the staging of up to three home matches.
