Yes, I know it's only a friendly but I think we're going to have to be on top of our game today. Pompey are clearly up for this one, having had a very active and early close season on the transfer front and with them just having broken the 10,000 season ticket barrier there should be no shortage of local support. What's everyone's view on this game? Is it time to play a more settled line-up which might reflect our starting eleven against Bournemouth, or is there still more experimenting to be done?
I agree Pompey will be up for it, having come through some terrible times. My view is that we can experiment at Daggers but need a strong lineup for this one with few changes at half time. Lets put a few players througn 90 minutes to be certain of their fitness. Fairly obviously Couliabaly will be put through the test and that will mean Smith and the Pig having less of a chance. However, i could be wrong and CP will take a ride on the Southsea funfair changing players like dodgem cars.
I've just noticed that on BBC Portsmouth and Coventry will be starting this season on 0 points. I thought the points deduction carried over to the following season if it didn't make a difference to league result (promotion/relegation) in the season of administration. That's what happened to Southampton and Leeds. Can anyone explain?
Cov were in line for a play-off place prior to their 10pt deduction, Portsmouth got relegated to L2 because of their pts deduction
Glad for the Pompey fans that so many have declared their loyalty by buying a season ticket for the coming season. It's often the fans who suffer through no fault of their own (apart from maybe a bit of ambition and a desire to see their teams win things). They should give us a good game today which we need, as we look to accelerate into a winning start to the season. (A couple of signings would be welcome). Be interesting to see Coulibay up against a higher level of defenders.
U-18s won 6-1 against Orient and u-16s 6-0 against Gillingham. Presumably both friendlies? Starters against Portsmouth: Charlton: Hamer, Evina, Jackson, Morrison, Dervite, Pritchard, Gower, Cook, Coulibaly, Harriott, Solly. Subs: Button, Cousins, Wiggins, Green, Cort, Hollands, Hughes, Stephens, Wilson, Wood, Kermorgant I don't like it when he mixes us the team. I would rather see the first XI play together, even if for only 45 or 60 minutes.
On the OS it states "live commentary on CAFC Player". When I log onto Player, it says "no live commentary". Same thing against Wimbledon. Any comments?
Strange. My account is still current and it accepts my log-in. I usually enter by clicking on "Live Matches".
Sorry,,,,, a bit off subject here,,,,, but,,,,,, I can't believe Mel Smith has just died of a heart attack at just 60! RIP mate
Probably should have included this in my last comment. Without the points deduction: Coventry would have finished 13th Portsmouth would have finished 22nd Cov spent a couple of days in the top 6 and Portsmouth also a couple of days in the top 20, but the points deduction didn't affect how they finished in the table.
