I personally would like him to stay with us as our squad is paper thin as it is...

Newcastle United may look to loan out Massadio Haidara in the first half of the new season.

United manager Alan Pardew has thrown the gauntlet down to the young Frenchman to show his worth, but is delighted by the competition for places at left-back.

Originally, Pardew had planned to loan out Geordie boy Paul Dummett, but the Academy product has taken backroom staff aback with a stunning start to pre-season.

The 21-year-old is now pushing Italian ace Davide Santon hard at left-back and United are considering loaning out Haidara instead.

Dummett was the man who got the nod to continue his pre-season training in Portgual as a reward for his efforts so far this summer.

United, tough, still rate Haidara highly after signing the youngster from Nancy.

He has been left behind on Tyneside but Dummett could get another piece of the action tomorrow night when the Magpies take on Rio Ave (6.00).

United were still waiting for a breakthrough in the transfer market last night with new director of football Joe Kinnear working on recruitment back in the UK.

However, there could be departures in due course with Dan Gosling’s representatives hopeful his move to Crystal Palace can be completed and Birmingham City looking to re-sign Northern Ireland international Shane Ferguson on loan for the first half of the season.

Both did not travel to Portugal this week – and Pardew’s relatively thin squad is about to be decimated further with Papiss Cisse’s future looking bleak after he was excused from travelling following the wrangle over whether he wears Wonga-branded gear this season.

It would be really nice to get a player IN rather than these constant stories of shipping people out!

Clearly one of Dummett or Hairdara will need a loan. I don't mind which it is. Even with the emergence of Dummett I still think we need a young right back to give Debuchy some cover following Raylors problems and the departure of Perch. Not a massive need because we have MYM and Anita but I'd rather not look to cut corners again.

Haidara looked solid, but did need to learn and it's not fair on anyone to let him do that learning at the Etihad, etc. Nor do we want to take the cups lightly this year. It's a very, very good move - Dummett has had the loan experience, played a lot of first team football and has that English upbringing. He should be backup to start, I think, though it's clear to me that Haidara has a very, very bright future. We do have a very solid looking squad. Tav looked ok at RB too the other day, so between him, Anita and MYM I think that's enough. Debuchy's rarely injured and a very fit lad.

    ??

It's a farce to let a player get some first team experience away from the Premier League spotlght? It's the one position where we actually have enough depth (Santon, Jonas, Dummett, Haidara, MYM). It's not like we're letting Campbell go on loan.

Most clubs its the right move to give young lads experience but we are so lacking in numbers look at last year, no Simpson anymore either

If Dummett is looking as promising as they are saying I'd say keeping him and loaning out Haidara would be the right move. Dummett has only got this year on his contract so if he gets a chance at some first team appearances we will hopefully see he is worth a longer contract and he should be happy to sign having tasted Premier League football with his boyhood team.

If Haidara is to go on loan though it might be better if it were to an English club, even if it were at Championship level so he can continue his education in the speed and aggressiveness of English football. Shipping him back to France as is rumoured might be of lesser benefit to us long term.

I don't think Jonas is a suitable contender for the first team in his favoured role, let alone left back.
We're too thin at centre back to have MYM as a utility player and Dummett has played one friendly match, hardly setting pre season alight is it?
I agree with the loan him out for experience in a less intense spot light, but would prefer an experienced left back, with Santon as back up. In an ideal world we have a 29 year old 1st teamer with experience, a 24 year old sub/cup player and a 20 year old loaned out for each position.
Like what we did with the keepers. Harps, Krul and Forster was the ideal scenario.

as much as i would love to see Dummet rise in this team i am concerned that we would be relying on him as back-up based on one good game against SPL opposition.Haidara shouldn't go whatsoever as i feel a little more confident about him defensively than i am even Santon which makes him too valuable to loan to me

I still think Santon would be better pushed up into wide midfield instead of Jonas, leaving Haidara as first choice LB. but that won't happen, so maybe a loan would do him good. We can always call him back if we get injuries.

I appreciate that we're well covered for the position, but would see some incoming activity, before we loan out.

Can see him going back to France if he does go out.

    This. <ok>

Let's make sure we have a strong first team squad.

We're already down by Harps, Simmo & Perch (and maybe Gosling, but I don't even count him to be fair) and anyone else who might be sold. So we we need incoming. Then we can assess who will benefit from being loaned out.
