Interesting read about common misconceptions around the City's reputation. The comments at the bottom of the article are very interesting... http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk-news/the-northerner/2013/jul/19/top-10-myths-about-hull
"Hull people are thick" - What does somebody's accent have to do with their IQ? There are obviously connections you could make about class, but I've got 2 degrees and I speak like an illiterate ****er.
No, it was that with the title of the factoid being "Hull people are thick", I was expecting something about our education system. Which actually comes further down. Just think it could've been titled better.
Agree. I think I could've defended the city better in a spare 5 minutes. ...as for the comments; the majority making negative comments seem to be people who are desperate to be ironic by churning out said "myths" and "jokes" about the city, and the rest seem to be people who were once residents and have moved away - they seem to be using this article to desperately justify and convince themselves of their own decision to move away - obviously not so sure.
That is what you usually find. People who live in places like East London say 'ull is a ****hole... they need to take a look at their own surroundings.
All this reminds me of a comment someone once made and goes something like this "There are worst things than being talked about and that is not being talked about" Hull is certainly getting talked about a lot lately, good and bad. Just to add my tuppence worth, a phenomenal lack of investment from both the private and public sector hampers Hull over the years we can only hope that with a bit of good news just lately, Castle Street, things may change for the better.
Some right twats making snide comments. Lucy doing a good job defending us. Is ccw Dutch? Sounds like him
I have lived in hull all my life. I am glad to be leaving there to be fair. I will leave it to the muggers and drunks.
I've never lived in Hull, born in Beverley lived in a village & Hornsea, I went to school there from Hornsea everyday for 3 years & knew every shop/building on Holderness Road from the bus ride top floor. Also attended Humberside Uni 2 years. Yet I consider it "my city".
You're too kind to him. If I didn't know Hull and read that all he'd do is perpetuate said myths and I'd come away with a worse impression than I started with. It's like he couldn't be arsed.
Iv'e also lived in Hull all my life. Born on North Hull est,and brought up on Orchard park. I didn't leave OPE,until 16 years ago,and you know what ? Iv'e never been mugged, raped or robbed once. And what's more,i don't know anyone who has. What are the odds ? Hull has always had a reputation, for friendly people. Maybe you just don't fit in mate. Oh and that article is just a veiled way of putting us down once more...
