Good news indeed if true. At the end of the day we are not going to get anywhere by beating off some of the top teams in europe to a promising and talented player's signature only to let him go after one half decent season.

If we are to have a really top season this year then Ramirez will need to be a big part of it and I'd be dlighted if he was still here on the 1st September. He will only benefit from a proper pre season and having had a PL season under his belt.

There will obviously be those who would argue that Banega is better/a better fit or whatever but the fact is that it may well take Banega a season or more to fit/settle in and then you are back to square one.

P.S. I'd love to have Ramirez AND Banega to choose from in an ideal world.

 

I didn't see Benteke signing a new contract coming.

Hard to imagine that we could get a work permit for such a player, unless they have an EU passport.

 

Well once he put the transfer request it was going one of two ways, A. Holds out as late as possible to drive the price down to the point where one of the big boys will come in and grab him, or B. Wait a little while, big teams still won't come in, Villa are pressuring and he bottles it and comes grovelling back. It seems he chose option B!

I think Villa's treatment of Bent last season gave them the ace in the hole, frequently teams in this situation bluff that they will just sit on players who do this if they are unwilling to be cooperative, but the pending financial repercussions cause them to panic and blink first. But in this scenario Villa already proved they would happily sit a high-paid player on the bench and the implications of that in a World Cup year were too much of a risk for Benteke. Funnily enough, I think if he had of held out they would have let him go, Bent was expendable but they would have been royally screwed without either Benteke or the players purchased from whatever fee they got for him.

Presumably the transfer request was a negotiating ploy. And presumably it worked.

Tancredi reporting that we couldn't agree a deal with Athletico Madrid for Ramirez. Interesting.

 

I mentioned that he was just copying from Sky Italia and he denied it. So I mentioned the original article and now he's getting uppity about it.

Strange.

 

Ha ha! I have to admit the quality of Tancredi's information has taken a right tumble in the last year. Pretty sure he's just sat in his boxers in front of his PC checking news sites.

 

He's telling me he's not getting this story from Sky Italia. That it's from elsewhere. But he can't say where and there's no other source online for it...

£20m is within our price range (it seems) and we love beating Liverpool to players, so how about him to soothe the pain from losing Banega? If nothing else, we'd at least get a thread titled Saint Bernard.
