This is without doubt the worse aussie side i have ever seen, the only player i really rate that could get in the enegland side is Peter Siddle. and thats a push!
no don't think so, who would he replace? defo not KP,Bell or trott. you could make argument for bairstow but then he has shone more than clarke in the 2 games so far both with batting and fielding.
3 innings isn't enough to condone clarke, he scored 4 double hundreds last year and is the most prolific run scorer in test cricket for the last 2 years.....
Been in social club since 12 watching it as day off today, just using my phone to say hello to you all. now off home to listen to rest in the garden.
Personally I'd take Clarke for Baristow any day of the week and Watson for Root. You could make a case for Siddle but he is like Andersen just not as good. I rate Harris (as stated on prior posts) but he is way too injury prone. In a couple of years when Root and Bairstow have proved themselves maybe they'd make the team but then you could make that argument about quite a few of the Aussies as this side has a real dearth of experience - I think only Watson, Clarke, Haddin and Siddle have more than 20 tests experience compared with England having bags of experience and only two rookies in Root and Bresnan
I honestly think the only Aussie I'd take would be Clarke (instead of Bairstow). Although Root is comparatively inexperienced, Watson isn't solid enough with the bat for me - he gets starts, but rarely makes them count.
Now that England have polished off the tail cheaply they must now concentrate on getting the Aussie's better batsmen out!
Totally can see where you're coming from billy, and he is defo the pick of the aussie batsmen. like i say there is an argument for both sides on the clarke/bairstow debate.
totally agree on this, Watson is more a one day batsman than have putting together a solid 5 hour grinding innings.
JK - I can see your point but as things stand today I would take Watson for the runs and impetus he can give the start of an innings plus he does provide a very useful fourth seam option, and he is an excellent slip fielder. Root has bags of potential both with the bat and as an off-spinner but I feel that he has been put up the order too soon. If you ask me would i swap them permanently then my answer would be no for the reasons you outlined above. Watson is too flaky and despite having huge amounts of ability he also has the concentration span of a kitten which he has never managed to overcome and given his age he probably will never be any different.
What do you reckon the odds on Ricky Ponting coming out of retirment for the aussies during this series?
