Eye up Folks, I've got a feeling... (nah, not that kinda feeling). I think they'll be a major development today in the transfer market involving a Leeds player. You heard it here first Isn't it weird that there has been NO interest in any of our transfer listed players. It is not as if there wage demands would be that high, otherwise, we would not have signed them in the first place. Big Ross has been fined £900 for fly tipping. Leeds are in talks over a megabucks link-up with energy drink giant Red Bull that could lead to the renaming of the club’s Elland Road ground. The Yorkshire Evening Post understands top-level discussions have started between club and company about a possible shirt sponsorship agreement. No-one involved in those discussions is prepared to go on record as to how far reaching any deal could be. But today’s revelation is likely to prompt speculation that a stadium naming rights deal could also be under consideration. Red Bull is already involved with a string of football clubs around the world – the New York Red Bulls and Austria’s FC Red Bull Salzburg play in grounds named after the company. Asked whether the talks could involve a stadium naming rights deal, highly-respected brands expert Jonathan Gabay said: “It’s not out of the question. “They would have to be cautious, because the initial reaction of football fans is to resist that kind of move. At the same time, however, I think fans are coming round to the idea that this is the way the sport is going.” We want to hear your new name for the ground, should Red Bull, or any other major investor plough needed cash into a great club!!!
Moaning Red Bull, yes, great and look forward to them getting involved. Sposorship deal will be big, so much needed funds, Stadium naming rights would be brilliant because .... ER and TA get bought back, which adds millions to the value of the club. It also brings in stacks of revenue for a 5-year deal, revenue that should be pumped straight into the team. Our 10-year affair with lower league football could be over before too long and we can stop comparing ourseleves to the poor relations of Stoke, Wigan etc, etc, etc. We will always play in white, so don't worry about changing the strip, this move also gets around the financial fair play rules like City and Foxes. Amazing how things like this are possible within weeks of the departure of Bates ....
Morning Doc and Elland. I'm really not clued up about all this investment stuff. I understand the need for the club to go down that route, but all this naming rights crap. Surely just having their name on the ad boards around the ground would be enough, especially if we're shown on TV a lot. I'm probably just stuck in the 70/80s, but it just feels like we'd be selling our soul. I know the younger supporters will disagree, but if there was another way I'd hope we'd go for it..
Morning all!! I broke the Red Bull talks a few weeks back via a source at a sports TV network. They said at the time that the key thing with Red Bull is they tend to buy a club rather than sponsor it, and they have the opportunity of buying a massive club for a lot less money than Fulham went to the Yank for. Also, they do get hands on and invest, as they want to be winners. Funny how YEP call this "news". On transfers, I really hope Mcd gets his target sorted quickly, it is clear he sees it as a key signing.
Morning all. No problem with selling naming rights once money reinvested in players. Not sure where some are getting the idea it would generate enough to buy back ER and TA.The figure being mentioned is 10m and that certainly wouldnt even buy back ER. Personally think mcd big signing hinges on this deal so hope it happens quickly to allow for the continued rebuilding
Morning all Obviously the money from a Red Bulls deal would be great, and you'd imagine that ER and TA would get bought back as part of the deal which is only good for the club. I'm just not a fan of selling the naming rights of clubs, it takes the soul out of everything. I know the fans will still call it Elland Road, but its the same when Ashley renamed St James' Park to the Sports Direct Arena. Add to that Red Bull usually rename the team as well. Personally I'm really not happy with the idea that we could become Red Bull Leeds.
It will always be Elland Road, so if someone wants to throw us millions to ignore there brand name then more fool them. West stand- sky bet stand no ones going to call it that! the Kop- the Don Revie stand no one calls it that South stand is the south stand as well! Show me the money and lets compete again Morning all
Not sure the FA would allow branding in a club's name though LID. Does anyone know if that would even be allowed ?
Would be happy if that's the case then. I could live with Red Bull Elland Road or something if it gave us masses of cash, but not changing the team name.
I don't know, I'm just guessing. But it seems to me that the FA, for the moment at least, don't allow sponsorship to go that far. Look at the world's oldest cup competition - it's not called the Budweiser Cup but it is referred to (on telly at least) as "The FA Cup, sponsored by Budweiser".
I would have a problem with "Leeds Red Bull(s)" but to be honest if the stadium is the Red Bull ER stadium, does it really matter? Can still say you are going to ER, and one day we might build a new stadium (as was once planned before we imploded) and its unlikelly it would be still called ER. If we get some cash to help buy the ground and at least that player BM has been crying into his beer over like a love-lost puppy, that will be worth it. But I would wince a lot more if our actual name had anything red in it, for reasons some might be able to work out, and share
No..................... you understand me so well, as befits man's best friend - good boy! View attachment 24816
Afteroon all Will gladly accept Red Bull's sponsorship money but I'd rathe Elland Road name in the stadium. Its just not the club history but the city's history as it was a Rugby stadium before we got our hands on it. If they want to change the name of the club like they did with New York they can take a giant leap off a giant cliff but I'll take a kit change to white and blue if the kit is nice and not supplied by Macron.
Actually, a small amount of corporate rebranding is acceptable when you are aligning yourself with one of the BIG names in the world. Whats a bit of colour, after all?
YEP actually doing some journalism, the air conditioning in the office must be broken. I hope there is foundation to the Mills story as I don't feel confident with just Pearce and Lees. We would all have preferred Craig Dawson but we can't make WBA let him go. Plus regards the Red Bull connection. We could be seeing Thierry Henry & Tim Cahill over in Winter for a few games on loan. They specialism is build strong foundations and bringing in the best available. So I would expect grassroots support and the best CEO a club could get.
