I think Papa with all his injury worries is a risk worth taking. He's the type of defender we NEED - dominant, vocal, nutter, leader. I have a lot of faith in our medical dept who have managed to keep Gerrard and Agger fully fit for the whole season.
I keep saying this, the way these players are kept fit is by resting them regularly. Rather than resting for games, they train less. Each player has their own training schedule. This is fine if there are only a few but if there is a squad full of them, how do you expect to work on tactics if you only have half a squad a best?
its all about belief. if the transfer committee really believes these are the two best players for lfc and they go to buy them then fine. you have to back your guys. for me Papadopolous is yet another risk. carroll was a huge risk as he was injured, aquilani the same. However each case bears no relation to the other as all injuries and players are different. I would seriously hope we have our medical right here and don't take a stupid risk. Rodgers himself said we have to get each right, we can't afford the mistake. On a player style note i would also prefer papadopolous to alderweireld. Bernard v eriksen is impossible for me to say. i know eriksen will be huge globally once he moves. I really believe in him so its up to us to back ourselves and if bernard is just that good fair enough... is he different enough to coutinho so that we won't have two guys standing in the middle in each others way?
I too am a little bit worried with the fact we seem to be targetting a lot of very similar players. As far as I'm aware Coutinho, Suso, and Alberto are very similiar to Bernard and Eriksen so I'm not too sure what system we're going for this time round. (Let it be known though that I feel we should try and sign Eriksen at all costs, the guy looks like he'll be a world beater in my opinion) On topic though and I feel Papadopolous seems like a very good replacement for Coates who for some reason appears to be on his way out. Personally I think Seb will turn out to be a great centre back in the future but he just doesn't seem to fit here for whatever reason.
my thing on alderweireld is not dominant so while he'd play beside agger i would wonder... isn't he toure but younger? coutinho is a great vision type player with dribbling and some shooting in there too. I have no idea about bernard... suso is a known thing but not at those two's level. Two similar player sis ok... par se... everyone being short and passers aint good. Aspas needs a good look to see if he can fill a kuyt role. finally.... coates.... i think he's too introverted and is not driven or ambitious. he needs to be far more aggressive and should have been a monster after 2 years of gym work. He might fit a lesser league and grow into that gradually. Its hard to know i just don't see a guy forcing his way into managers minds.
I was going to make a serious () comment on here then but stopped after typing a few words because its just old ground being re-written...
Bernard is a more different option to Coutinho than Eriksen. Eriksen is predominantly a number 10, much like Coutinho. Bernard is equally as good on the wing or the middle - he has pace to burn and the tricks to match. Eriksen hasn't impressed our scouts who have scouted him extensively for a while. The fact that we haven't persisted tells a lot - Eriksen flatters to deceive. He was touted as a major prospect a few years but he hasn't progressed as well as people would think.
I say we sell Suarez and buy all four (Papa, Alder, Bernard and Eriksen) and use the change to get a striker
Agree with that. Eriksen hasn't impressed me as much as he is hyped when I've watched him. Some nice tricks and flicks, looks great on youtube, but doesn't seem to control a game - which you'd want from someone in a forward and central playmaker position. I'm also not sure on the direction BR's taking lately, lots of central, skillful players. I worry we'll be playing too narrow next season with Sterling our only real wide option with pace who can beat a man. I don't count Downing because he only ever beats his cock and never his marker (well, during a game at least).
Don't worry about us playing narrow, we're adding ten rows of seats either side of the pitch so being narrow will suit Anfield
