Bit of an unusual preseason game gone on over in France.

    http://metro.co.uk/2013/07/17/marse...zarre-half-football-half-rugby-match-3887556/

Can't help but think that Marseille weren't quite taking it seriously with even Mandanda scoring 2 goals.

I wonder what the interest would be like if a similar game was arranged beteween City and FC. We could spice it up by saying that the winner gets their pictures displayed for free.

I can't imagine the rugby game was played with full contact, there's no way a professional football team would let their players do that a few weeks before the season started.

Rugby players have about an extra 2 stone of muscle compared to a footballer of similar height (probaly closer to 3 for union players), 40 minutes of rugby and Marseille wouldn't have 11 players to start the season with!

when I was at uni, we had the annual end of season football rugby. played on a football pitch the first40 minutes were football, so by half time we were usually 5/6-0 up. then second half put a couple more players on, change the ref and ball. and play rugby. one try equalled one goal with no kicks.....

the three years I played we lost every season. sorry footballing world.
