QUOTE Queens Park Rangers manager Harry Redknapp is bidding to make Tottenham Hotspur winger Andros Townsend a permanent addition at Loftus Road.

Townsend was on loan at Loftus Road last season and is locked in talks with Spurs to seal a deal at around £5 million.

Redknapp has been an admirer of the player since his days as manager at the north London club and after Townsend's successful stint on loan last season he is seen as a 'must have' player.

The 66-year-old has asked owner Tony Fernades to get him the player and veteran midfielder Scott Parker as the manager builds for a Championship promotion challenge.

Redknapp was also keen to bring in Blackpool winger Matt Phillips but has had to look elsewhere following the news that the player has broken an arm.UNQUOTE

Just hope it's true. We could do with some good news

Yes to Townsend. This would be a massive coup if we do get him and a big boost to the fans and to the club.

£5m is way too much unless Hoilett is sold for that much and Townsend is played on the left.

Love to see him sign, but agree that the price is too big.

£5 mill should include Parker imo. Can't see Townsends valuation as any higher than £3 mill. But then again it's Levy we're dealing with, expect to pay over the odds.

5 Million is a little bit steep for Townsend. I think he made it pretty clear he wanted to play in the premiership. In all honesty i'm surprised Palace didn't go in for him.

I would buy him of course but as I have said his game is predictable ... however if cuts in and shoots good chance a few will go in ... Without Taarabt, Townsend or Remy we are toothless

I think £5m is reasonable compared to the fees we paid for some of the other players!

The Standard this week was reporting that AVB would not sell Townsend and Parker did not want to drop to the Championship as he still has England ambitions.
    Different day, different rumours.

Or does it mean Andy Townsend, now that ITV have lost the FA Cup does he fancy playing again?

5 Mill for a player who outshone all our players last year since he turned up?...that's a bargain.

hes cheap because of the gambling "thing" and is the molst consistant performer we had last season "bar none"

If you cant see that then....I despair, but its your own opinions that count.

Adel has already proved nutmegs mean F-all, why noit have a playe that can deliver EVERY week?.. #just a thought

Townsend doesnt deliver every week, in fact he flatters to deceive 90% of the time but a lot of that is down to him playing on the right.

I guess there must be a reason why he isn't already a well established PL player but I can't agree with the implication that he wasn't effective most of the time he was with us. Our stand out player in the second half of the season by far. Easily worth £5m at today's prices but there is no way AVB will be thinking about letting him go if he has reviewed the videos of his performances at LR.

If we're talking of today's market...David Villa went to Athetico Madrid for 1.8m rising to 4.4m. And he ****s all over Townsend

Age, bad injury, high wages and the fact that teams outside the top two have no money probably accounted for the low fee. Bet he would have cost between 10-15 million had a premiership team tried to buy him....

yeah I don't disagree with any of that Sooper, just irritates me to think we're considering flogging 5mil out on Townsend when we could probably get him on loan for another year.

5m for a young up and coming attacking player who has shown potential, in today market sounds pretty good value. It may be too much for us to pay but cheap for a EPL club imo.

If we can get Toillet to perform to his potential and Townsend, ooddles of attacking threat on the wings or playing 1 -3 -3 setup.

Though not sure why he wouldn't be picked up by EPL clubs.
