It is all about opinions - I do agree with the gentleman that was Matt Gillies.

Matt Gillies had a very good side, one player short of a great side! but in the 63 final they put in the worst performance of
that season! A season that promised so much with some great football being played, the double was looking good till the last
6-7 games. Instead of getting that one player, Mclintock wanted to go! Matt Gillies was a good manager for us, He even f****d
the Twigs up when he managed them!

The defender's shortlist is now live on the merc. This will create yet more debate I'm sure:
    http://www.leicestermercury.co.uk/G...ok-defenders/story-19528761-detail/story.html

For me, out of these, I would definitely pick Walsh and Elliott. The others I never saw play. Disappointing to only see the likes of Sjoberg and Kamark as honorable mentions, as I understand Sjoberg was something special. I love Kamark purely because of THAT man-mark job he did on Juninho in 1997 League Cup Final. Top player who was underrated for the other skills he possessed.

From those on the shortlist, a defence of Whitworth, Cross, Appleton and Nish, with McLintock and Peter Rodrigues on the bench. Where the **** is Alan Woollett though?

an honourable mention should have been for tunchev perhaps? Never would make it in before walshy or taggart (the others i dont know about) but the best CB of this generation. Absolute class pre-injury.

An excellent team ... didn't get to see the best of Davie Gibson as he was at the end of his career and plagued by injury when I strated going down but my old man rated him as amongst the best he'd seen in the blue shirt.

Defender for me is Walshy, no question, an absolute Titan.

I don´t see many Lineker´s & Walsh´s in these line ups. Shilts for GK is a good call.

Keith Weller was unplayable on his day - lenny Glover was one of the most underrated players outside of Leicester - would just ghost past full backs and his crossing was exceptional ... when you had target men like Alan Clarke Andy Lockhead, Rodney Fearn, Frank Worthington, Steve Earle and Chris Garland on the end of Lenny's crosses it was a joy to behold ...

I can only do it really from the players i saw in the late 90's onward

    Keller
    G.Taggart S.Walsh M.Elliott S.Grayson
    R.Savage N.Lennon M.Izzet S.Guppy
    T.Cottee P.Dickov

    Subs: I.Walker C.Davidson P.Kisnorbo A.Impey G.Parker E.Heskey J.Joachim

I really can't comment on an overall best 11, cause im not old enough :p

Interesting that you have Emile Heskey, England centre forward with 62 caps (and a key part of many world cup / Euro campaigns) on the bench behind Tony Cottee (7 caps for England) and Paul Dickov (10 caps for Scotland)!

Cheers for this. I have a lot of "classic Leicester matches" DVDs and that kind of stuff with footage of Weller, Glover, Birch, Sammels, Earle, Garland et al and absolutely love to watch it all. Got one that features a cup clash with Luton where we took the piss and were compared to Brazil! So love all this stuff.

Edit: I would also always have Emile in my side, extremely effective forward in my eyes and he was a massive threat to other teams when they came to Filbo.

I was at that Luton game - which shows my age - and perhaps also explains why I get decidedly more critical of our current bunch than many on here ... "those were the days my friends" (as the terrace anthem went) - on our day we were a match for any team and played some wonderful, flowing, exciting football ...

On Heskey - I'm with you 100% - he was a key part of many a good England performance and who can forget that 5-1 destruction of Germany on their own patch ...

I would agree with you if it was best overall player, but im basing the lineup on their time at Leicester.

Looking at statistics Arthur Chandler with 259 goals(City's all time top scorer) and Arthur Rowley with 251 goals (The English League all time top scorer) would lead City's front line but everyone will want the local boy Gary Lineker leading the attack. It would be interesting to see what City's best 11 academy players would look like. Meaning players would have had to have spent time coming through the academy system to make the starting 11. People like Peter Shilton, Gary Lineker, Emile Heskey, Andy King

I often have an argument with my Stoke-supporting flatmate over the better goalkeeper- Banks or Shilton. They both played for both our clubs. He always argues Banks but I say that Banks didn't have a full career like Shilton- he could well have ****ed it up. Then again, neither of us are nearly old enough to have seen either player, so the argument is a little moot.

They were both brilliant shot stoppers (though I did see Banksy let one through his legs once).
Shilton edged it for me with his command of the area.
As a person, would take Banksy every time.
