He's doing a brilliant job, as he himself is never slow to point out. All I know about him is what appears on the OS, where it is obvious that either the club is grooming him for a bigger role or he is promoting himself for a top job. Let's hope it is the former. But with all the usual suspects rotating the managerial jobs amongst themselves every time there is a vacancy, the Football League could do with some bright new managerial talent. Would be better if he were English, but as in Andy Murray's case, we will have to settle for him being British.
Just read the ad. Looks like Jones' job alright, not working under him or even alongside him. Either he is going or being promoted, and the former looks more likely unless Powell, Dyer or Mathew are leaving. What a pity.
It's going to be a blow if he's been poached. Isn't this typical of the news management at the Club though - never changes, does it?
Nathan has gone, massive shame for the club and academy as I do not think we see the likes of coaches such as Nathan every day. He's gone to join Brighton and his old boss I believe as 1st team coach but could be development coach not sure, there is a good article about it in Brighton Argus. http://www.theargus.co.uk/sport/10556600.Nathan_Jones_back_with_Albion/?ref=twtrec kinda makes sense when you read article and history and Im sure if Oscar Garcia had not been appointed at Brighton then we would still have Nathan at our club. Unfortunate for us, as I feel it is, I recognise it as simply one of life's opportunities for a very talented, very decent, top guy and I wish him the very, very, best of luck and thank him for his hard efforts and sterling work he did with the U18's U21's last season. Moving forwards, the U18's -U21's squad is now in a very good place and it is crucial the academy employ the right person / personality to sustain and further develop the work Nathan did and successes they have achieved...it will need a person with humility to recognise this legacy and respect it not remodel it... although not impossible, it's a tough act to follow!!
A tough act to follow indeed. I fear that players who did well for Jones may not do so well under a different coach. I was particularly impressed by the way he used Harriott, Pigott and Smith as a front 3, with Harriott and Smith covering the whole width of the pitch. I don't expect Harriott or Smith to be so effective when they are used purely as a winger and centre-forward respectively. A difficult man to replace.
He clearly did a very good job, but we still have one of the best youth managers in the country at our disposal in Paul Hart and have complete confidence in him to get the right man for the job. As madadd says - once you read the article you can understand the move a bit more. Must have been an emotional pull to have the club where you enjoyed 5 successful years chase after you - and it seems like he will be back in the first team fold rather than working in developmental. Best of luck to him.
Good shout dick, he has signed on to be a coach this season hasn't he? Does anyone know much about how Jason Euell got in with the under 16's?
Jase has been doing very well for the U16's playing attacking football. I can see Jase moving to Dev Coach and Hughesy moving to U16's
Fair enough. It is a bit like Powell coming back to us, always in the stars. I am relieved he has gone to Brighton and not to a Premier club, as there is less chance he can attract our best youngsters with massive wage offers.
Except the way pre-season has gone (and the end of last season), Hughes looks like first choice for our First XI. If he hangs up his boots we don't have another player of that type or quality to replace him as Cousins is not ready yet.
It looks like Euells got the job. http://paimages.co.uk/preview/?urn=2.17130412 On here hes listed as the Professional Development Coach
Pretty pleased with this, Euell must have impressed with the under-16's. Did the club have a legal obligation to advertise the position?
Pleased for him. Another coach who has the club close to his heart and Billy said good things about his attacking football with the under 16's. Good luck to him!
Pretty relaxed about this - provides continuity - good luck to him. There's no obligation to advertise vacancies externally, unless the Memorandum and Articles of the limited company or the HR Policy of the company state that it's a requirement. That's my understanding, no doubt someone will correct me if this is wrong.
